The data you want to collect is accurate and spatially correct. If he must use the C2 it must also be smart enough to do it. 

Can the C2 pair with a Bluetooth gps device (hardware work around) 
If it can you can collect way points but you'll at the very least. 

Can it run My World GPS traker or even sports traker. 

the nokia E5 nonGPS device has positioning enabled the triangulation @thomas mentions just no built in GPS. but i wouldn't pick it to collect field data. 
Or get a C5 very basic comes with GpS
