@haggai The only association I have with the company is the shares (countable on one hand) that I own and the line in my pocket. For a company of its magnitude in an economy of our size, I believe they are doing a good job and any time I have issues I get personalized service and several callbacks. As far as am concerned they deliver (most of) what they advertise. Your reasons for staying a Safaricom customer are to me easy to resolve. All the other networks have money transfer services and as for the most known no. effect, all you need is to inform everyone in your address book that you have switched no.s which should cost just a thousand or 2 bob of airtime with the current sms rates, and everyone starts using the new line. You don't HAVE to use Safaricom. There are viable alternatives as you said. What do you mean by viable money transfer solution? one with more agents? funkier name? greener colours? orange money, yu cash and zap currently have more features than m-pesa though fewer outlets and distribution network. @Mark...ati nauseous...well, if you feed me a shitty service my natural inclination is to heave at your feet.
I don't know about you as I got a number of friends and close relatives who work for the very company - but I will not spare a second to complain when I fail to see value for my money. In the same breath, possibly you have a closer association to Safaricom, hence your personally-themed tangent?
Your opinion - however entitled you are to it - would have more clout if I was a lone voice shouting from the rooftops about their poor service. What has been said by others on this thread and the rest of the list confirms there are serious problems affecting their bottom line they need to address; as for whether I am dedicating most of the thousands I spend every month on airtime to Airtel - yeah you don't need a rocket scientist to figure that out.
M-PESA is seriously the only service that has me tethered to them, that and the fact that I have had that number for a very long time hence more of my contacts are aware of it. The latter would be solved by number portability - which I believe you know is undergoing tests at the moment. I reiterate - give me a suitable mobile money transfer alternative and I will lose that green SIM if they maintain these standards of service.
