We once tried to trap IMEIs of phones and put them in a database or excel sheet for some targeted adverts...
It was too much of a hussle to separate the whos and whos nots... and special hardware and software is needed for this; conventional GSN equipment dont just trap these things.
Besides, depending on the location, some devices were not even sending their IMEIs.
And the work that goes behind separating all devices inorder to give them different quality of services is a full time job; because first you have to know which IMEI belongs to which device, is it Nokia, iPhone or the Token.
Then you have to ask yourself, which ones were bought by Zain or Safcom from Huawei? Which ones were sold in Kenya ?
And new devices or phones are being bought and registered with IMEIs everyday; so you need a global database update to map these things.
I hope you see my point.
