I have a 500 external WD thats making the usual &quot;near failure noises&quot; (occasional clunking heads).<br>But its SMART data shows no sign of imminent failure.<div>I don&#39;t think its WD alone tho. </div><div>I&#39;ve had 3 Desktop Seagates, 3 Laptop Seagates and 1 Maxtor quit on me prematurely.</div>

I have experienced two incidences of failed WD hdd. as a rule,<br>
therefore, I keep away from them. I don&#39;t know that you can pin it to<br>
one supplier, but perhaps WD should make a recall????<br>
