Safaricom customer care can do it very easily from their end... It just depends on who you find when they finally pick your call.

Using the paid safaricom customer care line - 0722 00 22 00 - 0722 00 2100  - I was able to unsubscribe from some news update by telling the lady on the other end to do it from their system... she did it in less than a minute.
