These subsidy costs are recovered in about 3 months of the smallest data package sold. Its like the discounted hand-sets they sell with pre-paid lines. Locking the modem forever is plain idiocy since cost recovery isnt happening for the life of the modem. The providers are behaving like crack-cocaine dealers when they insist on such lock-ins.
