Hello, Just thinking, Voyager 1 was launched some time in 1977, so by the time I was born it had done some 1451.04 Million Kms, to date its been traveling at 17Kms every sec! meaning by last month it had done some 16445.29 million Kms, so in all my life its traveled 14994.25 million Kms... and all this time its been calling out to any Aliens out there presumably Luganda aliens, since Luganda was one of the languages in the Golden record, I really would love the idea of Luganda speaking aliens then we would convince Museveni that he is from a different planet. But again if aliens got hold of the space probe and returned with it to earth expecting the technology that was on board they would be shocked .... 1977 tech vs 2009 ..... just asking, what would you show them .... and would we show them the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva??... For one I would compare for them, hoping they have a sense of hearing, the turn table disks, as they were called, and the DVD as we know it today... the Sony Walkman and the Ipod... You have to agree with me that most of the technology today was born during the 60s, 70s it just been advanced .... Hhhhmmmm ;-), wait I should not believe these things, how can I when am told a star is 10 light years this is like 95,000,000,000,000 Kms away, yet they are some that are more than a 20,000 light years, don't ask for the number, aha meaning the light you see at that moment left its origin more than 20,000 years ago, so if according to the bible/ Koran the earth, and the Universe including light was created like 6000 years ago .... Introductions & Ubuntu Question. (8.0.4)

Hello guys, new to this forum, so if what i ask has been asked, pardon me and direct me somwehere. Question: I have Ubuntu, been working on saf and zain using wvdial and was working smoothly. Now I moved where i can access the Orange wireless thing and the speeds are not the only thing that appeal. (who can ignore the 1bob per MB deal), so anyway, I plug in the modem, run lsusb and i see the Orange device is seen, then try wvdialconf and im told there is no modem. Is there anyone who has successfully managed to configure this who can give me some direction? Device keeps mounting it as a storage device and I cannot Basics: Name : Collins Areba. Have you ever thought of moving out of mainstream distros? Personally, I like distros like Ubuntu and Fedora for when other, non computer people need to be using them, but often times I find them clunky, non responsive, and prone to many many bugs due to their large codebase. Therefore, I often prefer to use more trimmed versions. In recent years, this approach has taken the added benefit of package management systems and lightweight desktop environments. With package management systems, you get the benefits of dependency generation and easy package installation as with the large distros, but a much more trimmed selection of initial packages. Fedora especially takes the "Here's everything approach," which leads to bloat and function redundancy. Lightweight Desktop Environments like XFCE and LXDE attempt to provide the same functionality as bloat like KDE and GNOME, but without the monolithic sub systems that you find underlying KDE and GNOME. Heck, if you want, scrap the desktop environment completely and maybe try your hand at a simple window manager approach: Fluxbox, Blacbox, OpenBox, IceWM, etc. As for ubuntu, they lock everything down that your basically just not using Linux anymore. I am wary of any distro that tries its hardest to lock me out of the root account. However, as I am running a lab of machines I don't want people mucking up, I appreciate it. I also appreciate that everyone seems to be gravitating towards generating .debs for it. As much as I dislike ubuntu, I greatly appreciate its dedication to packages. So what distros do I like? Well Slackware for one. Someone has mentioned Gentoo as well. There is ArchLinux, MEPIS, EnGarde for dedicated servers, and my personal Desktop Distroy of choice is Zenwalk, a Slack-deriv. Or, if you are really, really, adventurous, whip up your own, complete, custom system using the Linux From Scratch project. After a lot of hard work, I have graduated to a normal linux user. still, i am so inexperienced that i have wasted a whole week of person-hours teying to get mysql and vmware tio run in linux before giving up. In both cases, Google assured me that there were more than 2 million other people facing similar problems, with no known straight forward solution. So distinguished Skunklings, I hereby sought your advice on the most suitable linux distribution for linux power users. I would like one with good support, driver support, many applications available (we dont like re-inventing the wheel) etc. I currently use Mandriva, and I am requesting for advice on Mandriva, Fedora, Suse, and the ever popul;ar Unix branched FreeBSD. I have been trying to configure a Huawei modem (Safaricom Bambanet modem) so as to use it with gammu. This is the response I get: $ gammu --version [Gammu version 1.20.0 built 02:08:29 on Oct 8 2008 using GCC 4.3] This is free software. Hey guys, Anybody know how to do it? When I download using IDM, the video file cannot be rendered. I have just downloaded two videos using Firefox's in-built/default download manager but still the file cannot be rendered. I have other .flv files on my HDD which I downloaded some time ago and are playable, so I don't think I need codecs or something of that sort. Ideas anyone? -- שִׁמְעוֹן

Not sure if I should post this. I've been reading about this one, but one unique question came to mind. Most comments are about trying to sell kenya as a destination, Brand kenya, software outsourcing etc. What I've not see so far is inward destinations i.e do you know of a kenyan BPO company and what is does ( no google or cck website pls, just think of one offhead ). I understand BPO just well enough to know these guys need to borrow a leaf from tourism sector. As a technos, what does the BPO company render as services?
