It amazes me how many organizations still shoot in the dark when looking to engage digital media for marketing purposes. Often, marketing managers or those charged with this function go with their gut feel when presented with the challenge of understanding what their consumers are doing online. It is necessary for organizations to predict future actions of their consumers if they are to position themselves strategically to reap from the unconscious actions of their target group. Consumers are averse to blatant profiling and this guard is usually let down when online. Smart organizations will follow the footprints left by their potential customers . By observing past events they can extrapolate and determine with a high degree of accuracy what their consumer will do and when they will do it.So how do we go about mapping intentions and funneling action? There are a myriad of tools that you can use and my favorite two are Google Correlate and Google Insights. Interestingly, out of a random ask among a fairly switched on tech community, only a handful had heard of or used these tools to do any consumer mapping! Google Correlate finds search patterns which correspond with real-world trends while Google Insights allows one to compare search volume patterns across specific regions, categories, time frames and properties More at - bit.ly/vwXiDs

The bikes charge batteries that can run for 100 hours, powering the lighting, cell phones, and laptops of protestors. But there is a downside to charging each battery. "It can take up to two hours of uninterrupted pedaling to reach 12.5 volts," said Ben Tevelow, an electrician from Brooklyn. He decided to join the project and put his skills to use when he heard about it in General Assembly. Isabelle Garbani, an artist who came to donate socks and other comfort items for the protest, pedaled tirelessly for 20 minutes before she was relieved by another participant. The Sustainability Working Group, which includes members from MIT Media Lab, Pedal Power, and Time's Up!, has already received donations of bicycles and other basic parts. They are currently seeking funding from the Finance Working Group and the general public in order to buy expensive electrical equipment that will allow them to build more generators. Between Aprill And June I ported to Airtel and lump-some number of problems had busy no!, some calls could not come though,and poor ntwk (voice breaking on incoming Safaricom calls),messsages delay generally alot of inconviniences I gave up and ported out to YU after trying to sort out my problems with the Techies of Airtel! 2. I joined YU in July surprisingly I moved in with some of my problems and developed others I could not recieve calls from specific Safaricom numbers though it was successfully sorted when Yu Techies pushed the Safaricom Techies to sort the issue, Now for the past week I cannot recieve messages from Safaricom with the daily promises "our Rechnical team is still working on it" I\m fed up and the last thing I'll do is port back to Safaricom I'll rather crash my no. 3. pliz Techies your advice will be greatly appreciated

Suffice to say that its growth is staggering. In 18 months it has managed to gain about 40% market share (50% totally), mostly at Nokia and Symbian’s expense, but also at the expense of Apple who is now stagnating around 20% or so. RIM has also remained more or less stable so far, but as I mentioned in the previous article, this will be short-lived if Blackberries don’t become competitive with Android phones and iPhones soon. Android’s 50% market has also been achieved and surpassed in USA, and also globally. One in 2 smartphones being sold today run Android. With about double Apple’s market share, and some would say that will be enough for Android, but I think it will continue to growth up to 70% globally and at least 60%-65% in USA. Why less in USA? Because the competition is more fierce there, and Apple had a good head start there. Plus it’s also where it’s the biggest concentration of Apple’s fanbase. This is why USA will continue to remain the strongest country for Apple percentage-wise. However, it will still probably stagnate around 30% or so. So Google and Apple together should be able to own about 90%-95% of the market in USA, and similarly on a global scale. The only difference would be that Apple will have only about 20% globally and Android will have about 70% as early as next year. In most markets there are only 2 main leaders that dominate the market, with the rest fighting over scraps. Whether Android will grow even more than that after 2012, it remains to be seen. I think predictions for more than a year are pretty pointless, anyway. But how will Google continue to grow its market share in the coming year? There are 2 ways, which is actually just one, because they are both about the lowering of Android smartphone’s prices. Let’s be clear about one thing. Android sets the benchmark in low-end smartphones right now. There aren’t many mobile operating systems to challenge Android at the low-end of the market. The only one is Bada, but that OS is still mostly a niche OS so far, and the biggest volume of low-end smartphones are still running Android. The lower the price becomes for these smartphones, the higher the volume will be, which means an increase in market share for Android. The second point, which is related to this one, is that the carriers really love smartphones, because they cost more (compared to feature phones), and because they get to raise their average contract plan with them. People want data plans these days, and because they want smartphones, the subsidy will be significant, which means the plan will be more expensive than what they were used to. The carriers will keep pushing smartphones to their customers, and most of the time that smartphone will be an Android smartphone, especially for people who want inexpensive contract plans. The carriers push of smartphones plus the ever lower low-end smartphone prices should help Android completely and undeniably dominate the market in 2012. Never register a domain with a Kenyan ISP

One reason that Kenyan ISPs lose money, customers and the good will of the technical committee is their backward, dracorian and illegal policies regarding domain names. It has now reached the stage where I believe that NO ONE in the right mind should purchase a domain (.com, .net, .org or .ke) from a Kenyan ISP. Mainly because they make it such a hassle to transfer your domain out. All international reputable domain registrars make it very easy to get your Auth Code/EPP Code to transfer your domain away from them if you wish. With Namecheap for example, have your EPP codes in your domain admin screens so you don't even have to ask anyone for it. For many others you get the code in your email at the click of a button. However, Kenyan ISPs go as far as even lying blatantly to keep hold of a single domain. One person was told that if the get the EPP code they would never be able to use the domain again. Another was told that if they get the EPP code their website and email would go down immediately. Another was told they would have to fill in a detailed form stipulating why they needed the code. In one crazy example last year a ISP wanted me to shuttle between their Mombasa Road and city centre office carrying hard copies of a “letter of authorisation” to get the Auth Code. They did not release the domain until we threatened them with legal action and adverse publicity. They ended up losing the contract to provide internet connectivity as well as domain registration as their aggression/unprofessionalism over a simple USD 10 domain scared one of their big clients away. What nonsense is this? Why not focus on delievering a reliable service rather than attempting to hold people hostage when they realise how useless the service your deliver is? These guys either ignore or have no knowledge of even the most basic ICANN policies: http://www.icann.org/en/transfers/policy-en.htm Considering that Kenyan ISPs are probably the main registrars of .ke domains this unprofessionalism represents a big challenge to increasing .ke domain uptakes. If it were not for the independent .ke registrars and all we had to deal with were Kenyan ISPs then .ke would have died out a long time ago. Yes, I know I have been speaking generally. RSupport (www.rsupport.com) has a pretty nice looking solution although it isn't free. It lets you use a PC to view and interact with an Android phone over the internet. It is designed for helpdesk agents to do remote support for users with Android phones. You can see and modify all the settings, battery usage, network strength in addition to being able to do standard remote control. One cool feature is that using the PC you can draw on the screen of the Android phone and the user sees your drawing on their screen. The company is based in Korea but strangely enough the guy I spoke to is a Kenyan guy living in Seoul. So you can get support in Kiswahili. The one issue so far is that the client app on the phone needs to be signed by the manufacturer in order to be installed and not all manufacturers have an agreement with Rsupport to sign the app. You can still run it but you have to root the phone. Hoping to get Huawei to allow the app on the Ideos without root so if others can call Huawei and ask for the same... An attacker brute forcing would use the same character set to crack the two. I've now managed to successfully update to Gingerbread-2.3.5 by using http://lix.in/-a7f0fb 2.3.4 was a bit buggy (for me) because I could not manage to login to my gmail account at all. This 2.3.5 does it instantly, responds faster.. We all know that getting there first matters, not in all cases. Talking about smart phones, Nokia dominated in the past, but now they seem to be left in the dust by companies such as HTC, Samsung and Apple. After viewing this http://conversations.nokia.com/ , all I can say is a phoenix rises from the ashes and slowly, there will be a huge change. What I love about Nokia: - Different designs (Dont lie, most Samsungs look the same) - OS views : Ok, Android is good, but do all android devices have to have the same UI? - Excellent hardware : Drop a Nokia and a Samsung, we all know who loses Theres more. I still have my S60 Nokia and I love it, except lack of apps. But in the near future....

This is a forward. </OT> Dear all, Just thought this article would help someone. Information is power!! *This is an extremely good article. Everyone should read it…* AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY ('TRY', BEING THE KEY WORD) TO ELIMINATE CANCER, *JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU* THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY . Cancer Update from Dr Shashi : 1. *Every person has cancer cells in the body*. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size. 2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime. 3. *When the person's immune system* is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors. 4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has * nutritional deficiencies*. These could be due to genetic, but also to *environmental, food and lifestyle factors*. 5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies,* changing* * diet* to eat more adequately and healthy, 4-5 times/day and by including supplements will strengthen the immune system. 6. Chemotherapy *involves poisoning* the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc. 7.. Radiation while destroying cancer cells *also* burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs. 8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction. 9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications. 10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites. 11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply. * *CANCER CELLS FEED ON:* a. Sugar substitutes like *NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made* *with Aspartame and it is harmful*. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses, but only in very small amounts. *Table salt* has a chemical added to make it white in color Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or *sea salt*. b. *Milk** *causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the Gastro-intestinal tract. *Cancer feeds on mucus*. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved. c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. *A meat-based* * diet* is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little other meat, like chicken. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer. d A diet made of *80%* fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an *alkaline environment*. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. *Enzymes are destroyed* at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).. e. Avoid *coffee, tea, and chocolate*, which have high caffeine *Green tea* is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it. 12. *Meat protein* is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup. 13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells. 14. *Some supplements* build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the bodies own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.. *Other supplements* like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells. 15. Cancer is a disease of the *mind, body, and spirit*. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. *Anger, un-forgiveness and bitterness* put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. 16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. *Exercising daily* and *deep breathing *help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells. 1. No plastic containers *in micro wave*. 2. No water bottles *in freezer*. 3. No plastic wrap *in microwave*.. Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer.* Dioxins are highly poisonous *to the cells of our bodies*. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as* this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we *should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.* This especially applies to foods that contain fat He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, *he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food*. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. *So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.* Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. Also, he pointed out that *plastic wrap, such as Saran*, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. *Cover food with a paper towel instead* .* *Please share this with your whole email list.......................* This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life.*

So the blogsphere is ablaze with the news of the Naspers backed Kalahari and Mocality shutting some of their Africa operations. Well, my take is very simple.I am sufficiency tech savvy and well educated.I understand and use paperless cash ala credit and debit cards and use Mpesa often.I am an avid movie watcher and read tonnes of stuff on my Ipad. A quick survey at the Nailab {5 peeps seated around a table} revealed that while 4 chaps read ebooks and watch movies {torrent supported} on this pad or that pad and 1 lady is a voracious reader {does a book every three months qualify for voracious??} None had actually bought anything that would have been sold by Kalahari on Kalahari, with the ads on tv and web notwithstanding {and not to mention the prices on Kalahari were more expensive} More here - bit.ly/ul3o5T

Also: http://news.yahoo.com/googles-buzz-dead-210412637.html Personally I think the site design was quite ugly and attractive, didnt appeal to me and I felt from the beginning that it wasnt going to catch up. Mabbe its the format and the choice of color. Google+ could also be headed for the door me thinks - same unattractive format which I find not so user friendly and eye holding like Facebook.

No, no matter what I did, it was never enough for some, but for others, they knew I was the son of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the only true Arab and Muslim leader we've had since Salah-al-Deen, when he claimed the Suez Canal for his people, as I claimed Libya, for my people, it was his footsteps I tried to follow, to keep my people free from colonial domination - from thieves who would steal from us. Now, I am under attack by the biggest force in military history, my little African son, Obama wants to kill me, to take away the freedom of our country, to take away our free housing, our free medicine, our free education, our free food, and replace it with American style thievery, called "capitalism" ,but all of us in the Third World know what that means, it means corporations run the countries, run the world, and the people suffer. So, there is no alternative for me, I must make my stand, and if Allah wishes, I shall die by following His path, the path that has made our country rich with farmland, with food and health, and even allowed us to help our African and Arab brothers and sisters. I do not wish to die, but if it comes to that, to save this land, my people, all the thousands who are all my children, then so be it. Let this testament be my voice to the world, that I stood up to crusader attacks of NATO, stood up to cruelty, stoop up to betrayal, stood up to the West and its colonialist ambitions, and that I stood with my African brothers, my true Arab and Muslim brothers, as a beacon of light. When others were building castles, I lived in a modest house, and in a tent. I never forgot my youth in Sirte, I did not spend our national treasury foolishly, and like Salah-al-Deen, our great Muslim leader, who rescued Jerusalem for Islam, I took little for myself... Hi, I am writing a couple of regex values to validate for valid longitude values that should fall within a specific range , and so far i got the general syntax ok for longitudes , my regex is as follows: [-]?3[1-7]*[.]{0,1}[0-9]{0,6} i.e an optional negative sign followed by a number in the range 31-37 , followed by an optional decimal point, and if there is a decimal point then a set of numeric character to a max of 6 characters. When i run the regex on some test values i get the following results -31.00000000 TRUE 31.00000000 TRUE -37.999999999 TRUE 37.999999999 TRUE -36.744uiu82 TRUE ( but should be false.; it truncates the characters to return a true on -36.744) 36.744uiu82 TRUE ( but should be false.; it truncates the characters to return a true on 36.744) -3sers6.744uiu82 TRUE ( but should be false.; it truncates the characters to return a true on -3) 3sers6.744uiu82 TRUE ( but should be false.; it truncates the characters to return a true on 3) 28.90909 FALSE (does not fall in range) -28.90909 FALSE (does not fall in range) My problem is with the values in the text highlighted . Hi All, Im having a Dell Poweredge 1800 server acting as my TS. We have 45 users connected and quite a number of HP and Canon printers are installed on the TS. I have two issues 1. The spoolsv.exe on the server is taking up 100% CPU usage 2. The server has over 50 "in session" printers that do not disappear even when users are not connected via RDP. Suppose you were designing a database to store accidents, and you had the need to categorize them, are the categories below sufficient? By accident here I mean non-intentional occurrences which lead to undesirable consequences... 1. Vehicle Accidents involving vehicles with at least 4 wheels 2. Cycles (is there a better name for this?) Vehicles with three wheels and less 3. Buildings 4. Infrastructure, e.g. bridges collapsing etc 5. Marine How do you differentiate someone drowning from a boat sinking? 6. Aircraft 7. Ordinance? Old military appliances that tend to explode? 8. Domestic Accidents which happen at home. On complaining to the top management, the account was immediately deleted. Anyways, system lapses occur. From a banking perspective, these claims are possible but not through hacking. What normally happens is that in case of such withdraws via an atm, the card centre may have linked your account to the wrong ATM card n vice versa. Take it like a cashier doing an over the counter transactIon to the wrong account. It happens alot. Hi Skunks, On Friday the 21st of October I noticed something strange with my Cfc Stanbic Account. While trying to withdraw money at the International House ATM, I realized from the system that avaibale balance was 300 kshs and Actual balance was the money which I was supposed to be having in my account ( lets for the sake of this discussion say its X shillings) I reported this issue to the Bank branch and they mentioned that there was a possible problem On Saturday while trying to withdraw money from the Buru Buru ATM, I got a message insuficient funds. On gettting a mini statement it shows VISA ATM withdrwals of equal amounts i.e x/3 done thrice to 3 decimal points which if added up summed up to x. This looked like a well calculated hacking job. Skunk(ette)s, Afternoon. I'm using a Samsung Omnia Pro (B7330) Windows Mobile (Version 6.1), and I've tried looking for its accessories - earphone, USB cable etc without success. All the shops in Nairobi don't stock the phones accessories. I've tried tweeting to @SamsungMobileKE and their Facebook fanpage(SamsungMobileKE), but it seems no one is 'manning' the handle, or I'm using a wrong handle altogether. In addition, I've tried looking for an upgrade - to ver 6.5 but there is nothing to that point. One of my root certificates expired last year but still I can't get the upgrade of the same. Could anyone know: 1.Where I can get the phone's (original) accessories 2. How, if available, to upgrade the phone's version. 3. Where Samsung Mobile outlet is? Hello there, I Recently upgraded by box from Natty Narwhal to Oneiric Ocelot. Now my sound card drivers seem to not have installed successfully or something of that sort. When I play an mp3 file using the aplay command, it plays. When I play a video in totem, it plays and has sound, but very low. The sound icon/applet (besides the clock) shows that my PC is muted. I cannot drag the slider to increase the sound volume. Clicking on the hardware tab under "Sound settings..." displays no hardware detected. I have tried installing and reinstalling alsa drivers but the problem still remains. Help a skunk in need tafadhali. Thanks in advance. Me.

Hallo guys, I am installation a Solaris machine (blade x6270) with x86 Solaris 10 OS. The chassis has only 1 blade server on slot0, the rest are empty. Two issues: 1. I managed to redirect keyboard, mouse and dvd-drive to my laptop (running Vista) as the machine came with neither - using Java ILOM GUI on NetMGT port. However the thing wont allow me to use serial-console simultaneously with the GUI redirection (which i really need) - it only allows me ILOM access on serial-console. Any ideas as to how I can use both serial-console cli and GUI redirect on NetMGT ? ILOM: -> start /SP/console start: Invalid target /SP/console -> start /CH/BL0/console start: Invalid target /CH/BL0/console 2. It happened that the single blade machine came with a faulty hdd on slot 1; so i installed solaris on the first hdd (slot 0) while i awaited the replacement from Oracle/Sun. When the new hdd arrived; plugged it in; the hdd is showing green-light ok; and can be seen at the bios. However; in the OS, the new hdd is not visible: bash# ls /dev/rdsk/*s0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0 bash#format 0. c0t0d0 <SUN18G cyl 7506 alt 2 hd 19 sec 248> /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/sd@0,0 Tried to do the following: bash#devfsadm bash#devfsadm -c disk bash#drvconfig Still nothing on slot 1: bash#format 0. c0t0d0 <SUN18G cyl 7506 alt 2 hd 19 sec 248> /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/sd@0,0 However, there is a change on the 'rawdisk' directory (you can see a new entry "c1t1d0s0") bash# ls /dev/rdsk/*s0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s0 ===== What am I overlooking here ? I understand that once the OS is installed, the OS might have some trouble seeing the new hdd. The new hdd LED light goes off on its own after about 30 min - probably because of idle time. 1. I need to mirror the new hdd partitions to be similar to old hdd partitions (but have different partition names) I have poured on several sites on the internet and most basically say the above; use 'devfsadm' and the use 'format' - however this doesnt seem to work to detect my second hdd on the format options. Hi peeps, Has anyone used ubiquity unifi access points? What is your experience? Do they actually do the range and data transfer and client capacity as they advertise? Where can i get some? What are the alternatives for an office environment, with offices in 2 buildings 100 meters apart, and a total of about 75 users? Thanks and regards, Ian

Skunks I needed an opinion from anyone who owns an x-trail . If I am to drive to and from Buruburu to town daily what average would we been looking at in terms of fuel. I got some estimates from an enthusiastic car salesman but I think he was pulling my Leg ( he claim 250 a day at current fuel prices) Will appreciate feedback Regards Kevin
