Are you sure skype is your problem? I would doubt it because much of the bandwidth on skype would be from a video conversation, and if bandwidth is low then the video frames would be too slow to have any meaningful video chat. I think that transfering a continous large file (which would cause the network to slow down) is not the same as transmitting video frames. Each frame is like a small file therefore it's like transfering many small files. What made you conclude it's skype? Orange Data Traffic

Hi Skunks,I have noticed that orange (mobile atleast ) tends to eat up more data than other providers for the same request/resource. . .. . A wap page that normally loads on a safaricom connection at 8kb loads on Orange at 15kb plus. . . . .the problem is more extreme on pc. . . . . This reminds me of something I said back in Uni during lunch time with two of my friends (yes, it important for you to know the setting 8~)). Once one hears there is traffic on Uhuru Highway what else would you like to know? I believe Uhuru highway is the bottle neck of Nairobi. Take a case: South C: Vehicles in Mombasa Rd can't join Uhuru highway fast enough so a long jam till Zain results. Motorists detour through South C and thus there is jam between South C and West where all Mombasa Rd and South C ppl are trying to escape. They finally meet Langata Rd and guess where Langata Rd. goes ... By the way it is faster to walk from South C to CBD than to take a vehicle. Hallo skunk/skunkettes, Following a promise by the ICT board to fund or give a prize a collaborative skunk project - And seeing from the previous thread that had some interesting ideas from Josiah and backed up by Wesley, entitled "*Re: [Skunkworks] traffic congestion: solutions to hepa traffic*" I think the traffic case would be an ideal 'collaborative' skunk project as put forth by the ICT board. I think PS Ndemo would also back up on the bureaucracy to see the project through once the project is underway. To all college/university/tertiary institutions/ this would serve as a good experience point - furthermore, there is a prize attached to the collaboration. I know and have seen some 'sensor' and 'traffic' projects at the IEEE annual student competetion, I have also seen a lot of innovative 'mobile phone' projects - if you had such a project ideas could be pitched in in this thread for the incubation of the traffic case idea. Hi, The next Skunkworks meeting will be on Tuesday 14th April 2009, on talking to Government. The talk will be given by Alex Gakuru, the meeting will start at 6.00 pm. Among the topics that will be covered are: 1. Why we need to work well with government. 2. How to lobby for appropriate policy. 3. How to ensure policy is implemented. 4. Presenting government in appropriate light. Questions may be asked as the talk proceeds to ensure that all matters are adequately covered, anything else you may feel not covered can be included. The meeting will be at Multimedia University College (formerly KCCT), Town Campus, Teleposta Towers, 4th Floor. Dear Skunkworks list members, We wish to take this opportunity to extend our sincere apologies for the outage experienced on the list in the past week. This was caused by reasons beyond our control after the hosting server was withdrawn from service for emergency maintenance and upgrades. Thus the lack of advance notice on the outage. We have since made some changes and setup alternative services that will continue to serve in case of future failures. Please take note of the following resulting points. o The new list now runs on a sub-domain lists.my.co.ke for easy migration outside the primary domain. The new list address is therefore skunkworks(a)lists.my.co.ke o As a result of the migration previous user specific settings were not maintained. Members who had such options i.e digest mode are requested to visit http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks and select their preferences once again. o We shall aim to restore the mail archives in due course and notify you accordingly. o Over time we observed that most yahoo.com email addresses were unsubscribed from the list due to delivery failures. We would wish to monitor this going forward and fix the issue if it persists. o We have further observed that the number of off-topic posts has increased. While we appreciate that the topics are of general interest to the community they are beyond the scope of the list in some cases. In an effort to maintain the lists focus, we have setup a bulletin board where such digressions can take place i.e http://my.co.ke/phpbb/ o lastly, we have introduced the skunkworks-announce list for announcements to list members i.e meetings etc to separate postings from normal traffic.
