connecting a pc to a laptop display

Dear list, I am using a PC that only has DVI output instead of VGA (I have a DVI cable that ends with a male VGA connector). Now that I don't have a monitor with a removable VGA cable, I have tried to connect this to a laptop - which connects fine. But how do I get to display my PC onto my laptop screen? I am familiar with the reverse - displaying the laptop output onto a normal monitor. Any assistance will be appreciated. Ikua

Good people, its amazing how airlines havent considered the use of GPS in their tracking systems( IEC Broadband reporting) yet every other valuable(cars, phones, laptops n even kids!) is GPS enabled. This is quite shocking considering the NSA's rating of GPS systems as having accuracy rates of 99.3% for last mile applications. With GPS the crash site would have been located within minutes of going off radar. Guess its something our local airlines could score a first in. Over to KQ and KCAA. Anycast instance of the F root name server in Kenya?

Hey people, I came across a Map of all 123 DNS root server instances (including local Anycast instances) at the end of 2006 here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Root-current.svg And there is a red dot on Kenya, one of the 3 anycast instances in Africa (two are in South Africa). Can someone pls confirm this? Where is this instance housed? Who manages it? What sort of technology do they use? And if this is so, this was implemented back on 06 when the fibers were a pipe dream?

So yesterday the budget was read amidst excitment and anticipation among MPs and the public at large. Of particular interest to me was the zero-rating on the prices of Mobile phones. What does this mean to the consumer? How long before we begin seeing the effects of this in the shops. Any insight would be helpful. The other thing, today the fiber optic is being commissioned. How soon before we feel the effects both in speed, bandwith costs, adoption by the industry etc??? Hi guys, I am trying to install kaspersky Internet security 2009 on Win Vista Business; It was bundled with McAfee 11 with internet advisor and after removing it .. deleting all associated files and registry keys.. I still get "remove incompatible software while installing Kaspersky" I have tried ccleaner and several other registry cleaners but I still get the same error. Any ideas??? Thanx Maina.

I find this forum appropriate to engage in this discussion. Once again, if this has been done before, forgive me, im trying to get opinions and views, and possible scenarios. Please consider the following: 1: Fiber lands, Mobile providers offer unlimited band on 3G at monthly flat rates: say for instance 7.2M at Ksh2000 on a contention ratio of about 100 users. What possible scenarios exist for companies like access , wananichi and other providers. 2: Would companies like safari and zain (or Cain depending on who is next online) have capacity to roll out (and sustain 3G network) countrywide? -> this being from a business and not technology perspective. -> are mobile companies a real enough threat to kill traditional ISPs? 3: is it realistic to envision someday setting my webserver connected to an e61i or huaweii modem and sell realistic hosting from the comfort of my home in kajiado? The above was a better, re-vamped version of KenyanBlogger.com that was created some time recently (not sure when) the former kenyanblogger site had crashed, apparently. So i happily imported my blog to this new one, KB Blogs, since back then when it crashed, all my posts disappeared. Anywho, it happened again, I guess it crashed. again, it crashed with all my posts. Basically, my question is, how exactly does a blog (hosting) website crash? And why would it happen twice to the same site?

Folks, I have a computer being used by someone and I'd like to 'monitor' everything they do without raising suspicion. It's a Windows PC. What software (can be commercial or open source but must run on the host and send me all the data I'd like captured) do you guys recommend. How resources ? You calculated the cost of your 1MB of download, and charge the user that price. Unless you're charging the user less than what it's costing you to download 1MB. It's an issue when you sell pipes, then you have to put aside resources. But when a user pays for each MB of data he downloads - let him do what he wants - he's paying for it anyways. Corporate SMS App

Part of the Corporate sms app is programmed in C and the rest in ASP.NET C#. It can do the following. 1. Read Short Messages from the SIM card connected on USB Port through GPRS (Safaricom or Zain) USB modem and populate into MYSQL 5.1 for future reference. 2. Create a Primary Data Unit for sending via the same Connectors and track as sent items. 3. Reroute a short message e.g One message can sent to the number (Safaricom or Zain or other) connected to Modem and the system reroute it to other numbers (Contact group) specified in phonebook. 4. Generate reports on all selected cretiria 5. The system allows to select dual sim card mode. Where you can select one to send and one to receive. 6. Hats off to him!!! *Yesterday the world saw the disappearance of an A330 Air Frane during a trans Atlantic flight between Rio to Paris. Very ironic that a day before I got a mail of the photos taken a a passenger on a flight mins after a mid air collision, and mins before the crash of the said aircraft Two shots taken inside the plane before it crashed. Unbelievable! Photos taken inside the GOLB 737 aircraft that was involved in a mid air collision and crashed.....** * A B737 had a mid air collision with the Embraer Legacy while cruising at 35,000 feet over South America. The Embraer Legacy, though seriously damaged with the winglet ripped off, managed to make a landing at a nearby airstrip in the midst of the Amazon jungle. The crew and passengers of the Embraer Legacy had no idea what they had hit. The B737 however crashed, killing all crew and passengers on board. The two photos attached were apparently taken by one of the passengers in the B737, just after the collision and before the aircraft crashed. The photos were retrieved from the camera's memory stick. You will never get to see photos like this. In the first photo, there is a gaping hole in the fuselage through which you can see the tailplane and vertical fin of the aircraft. In the second photo, one of the passengers is being sucked out of the gaping hole. These photos were found in a digital Casio Z750, amidst the remains in Serra do Cachimbo. Although the camera was destroyed, the Memory Stick was recovered. Investigating the serial number of the camera, the owner was identified as Paulo G. Muller, an actor of a theatre for children known in the outskirts of Porto Alegre. It can be imagined that he was standing during the impact with the Embraer Legacy and during the turbulence, he managed to take these photos, just seconds after the tail loss the aircraft plunged. So the camera was found near the cockpit. The structural stress probably ripped the engines away, diminishing the falling speed, protecting the electronic equipment but not unfortunately the victims. I think proving facts scientifically helps clear the air for the sceptics... At the recent Google i/o conference this was unleashed, Google Wave was unleashed Google on Thursday revealed what it's billing as "the email of the future." Named Google Wave, the experimental project is the result of a multiyear initiative to reinvent digital communication by blending e-mail, instant messaging, and content sharing into something resembling a cross between Twitter, Facebook, and your standard email platform (G-mail. it combines conversation-type communication and collaboration-type communication. @watson, The biblical day that God spent creating is not necessarily the 24hour day that we know. The notion of the creation day being a 24 hour period arose from the King James version and not church history. It has to do with the hebrew language lacking precise definitions for a time frame, thus the hebrew word 'Yom' can mean 12 hours, 24 hours or a long time period. If you read closely, you will discover that the 7th doesnt end, it is continuing, God entered a state of rest (Ps 95, Heb 4). The biblical account of creation is chronologically in agreement with evolutionary assertions. mail server error

Hellos, I have set up a mail server but mail to some domains is bouncing with the error "Unknown address error 550-'failed to meet SPF requirements'. I have set up spf records on the binf dns running on the mail server machine. Of shrinking bottles

I have a question: The other day I put hot - as in boiling - water into a plastic bottle and it shrunk to almost half the size. This happens especially with Highlands juice bottles, av tested with Quencher and empty Coke 2ltr bottle but they are not affected much. I mean a 1ltr bottle literally shrunk to 500ml. Where did the rest of the bottle go?

I have noticed an increase in the rate of web mail accounts, esp yahoo been phished.Many people have had their accounts compromised and used to try to get cash from their friends. Network Fails on windows XP

Hi Guys, I have this pc running on Win XP SP 2; The user uses outlook express and skype for most of the tasks. Network drives are accesible just fine. but skype will often fail to sigh in and if it does it wont be able to send messages, Outlook Express does the same. these two apps eventually work when you diable nd enable the network adapter/ connection or unplug and plug back the network cable... or restart the machine. The network is content filtered by DansGuardian running on a linux server, i checked with the ISP guys and the IP address on this machine is limited but allowed outlook and skype acess, there are several other machines on the network with the same limits but are working fine. Any ideas?? Maina Muraguri.

Skunkers, The achievement of e-Government in Kenya has been one of the main priorities of the Government of Kenya towards the realization of national development goals and objectives for Wealth and Employment Creation, as stipulated in the Kenya Vision 2030. The Government of Kenya established the e-Government Programme in June 2004. Subsequently, the Directorate of e-Government (DeG) was established in June 2004 as a Government commitment to make e-Government a reality and to ensure that it provides better services to Kenyans. We have all seen effort across different Govt arms towards adoption of some form of e-government and if my memory doesn't fail me, i know there have been lost of exchanges in this forum directly and indirectly in this respect. (e.g. KRA onlines services...and whether they work, the e-gov portal launched by KICTB etc) I read Mworia's article on making of a revolution (posted Frid last week... I think 5/0/08) and what captured my attention are the misconceptions that many of us could be harboring. Now...(To the Point) to those knowledgeable than some of us are, could some one highlight to me what the broad achievements and REAL impediments have been within the last 5 years regarding the provision of following e-government services: 1. I want to make what i feel Hq a clarification about fedora. I am of the opinion that it is not a distro geared towards any one enviomnent but more towards a mindset: people who like the bleeding edge of software. In fact the fedora install process has one of the most comprehensive package selection processes of any of the main distro. This gives the user the benefit of being able to tailor their experience by selecting packages even at the individual level not just the purpose level (Desktop server etc). So if you are looking for a easy graphical install that doesnt include any mplayer plugins try doing a custom package install off a fedora install dvd. I have Fedora 11 if anyone wants to chat and arrange a swap. Amarok-Now-Playing for Kopete

I got fed up with the downloadable plugins that post on Kopete what Amarok is currently playing. So I wrote my own that uses dbus (The upgrade of DCOP) to do the postings. Uses Amarok 1.4 and Kopete 0.70.2. The Script can also work with Pidgin (look at the commented out sections for more detail). I am/was working on that until my pidgin started misbehaving. Pidgin gets called via the purple-remote interface. while wait for seacom etc is on, I've been testing on my Nokia E71 ( symbian 60 ) phone. Just as gps and maps have become a norm, I've successfully tested over the last 6 months and can list these for you. While Nokia has builtin voip settings, I preferred to use a standard SIP client that will work on most symbian devices and any providers. Am still to test on Winmo 6.1 pro. Software : Uniphone by Optimobile : http://www.optimobile.se/ Cost : 25 Euros ( online ) Usage networks : Data Wifi Codecs supported : G.711 (u-law and a-law), GIPS iLBC (30 ms) and Enhanced G.711 Tests conducted : On Wifi only. test provider was nice enough to mail my logs to me. With these it was possible to see the errors and corrections needed on their asterisk system. Results : Excellent voice quality, requires a minimum of duplex 64kbps for G711. Sat delay and some jitter was as exptected. sharing my thots. ( corrections are welcome ). :-) Rgds.

Hello, Just thinking, Voyager 1 was launched some time in 1977, so by the time I was born it had done some 1451.04 Million Kms, to date its been traveling at 17Kms every sec! meaning by last month it had done some 16445.29 million Kms, so in all my life its traveled 14994.25 million Kms... and all this time its been calling out to any Aliens out there presumably Luganda aliens, since Luganda was one of the languages in the Golden record, I really would love the idea of Luganda speaking aliens then we would convince Museveni that he is from a different planet. But again if aliens got hold of the space probe and returned with it to earth expecting the technology that was on board they would be shocked .... 1977 tech vs 2009 ..... just asking, what would you show them .... and would we show them the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva??... For one I would compare for them, hoping they have a sense of hearing, the turn table disks, as they were called, and the DVD as we know it today... the Sony Walkman and the Ipod... You have to agree with me that most of the technology today was born during the 60s, 70s it just been advanced .... Hello guys, new to this forum, so if what i ask has been asked, pardon me and direct me somwehere. Question: I have Ubuntu, been working on saf and zain using wvdial and was working smoothly. Now I moved where i can access the Orange wireless thing and the speeds are not the only thing that appeal. (who can ignore the 1bob per MB deal), so anyway, I plug in the modem, run lsusb and i see the Orange device is seen, then try wvdialconf and im told there is no modem. Is there anyone who has successfully managed to configure this who can give me some direction? Device keeps mounting it as a storage device and I cannot Basics: Name : Collins Areba. Have you ever thought of moving out of mainstream distros? Personally, I like distros like Ubuntu and Fedora for when other, non computer people need to be using them, but often times I find them clunky, non responsive, and prone to many many bugs due to their large codebase. Therefore, I often prefer to use more trimmed versions. In recent years, this approach has taken the added benefit of package management systems and lightweight desktop environments. With package management systems, you get the benefits of dependency generation and easy package installation as with the large distros, but a much more trimmed selection of initial packages. Fedora especially takes the "Here's everything approach," which leads to bloat and function redundancy. Lightweight Desktop Environments like XFCE and LXDE attempt to provide the same functionality as bloat like KDE and GNOME, but without the monolithic sub systems that you find underlying KDE and GNOME. Heck, if you want, scrap the desktop environment completely and maybe try your hand at a simple window manager approach: Fluxbox, Blacbox, OpenBox, IceWM, etc. As for ubuntu, they lock everything down that your basically just not using Linux anymore. I am wary of any distro that tries its hardest to lock me out of the root account. However, as I am running a lab of machines I don't want people mucking up, I appreciate it. I also appreciate that everyone seems to be gravitating towards generating .debs for it. As much as I dislike ubuntu, I greatly appreciate its dedication to packages. So what distros do I like? Well Slackware for one. Someone has mentioned Gentoo as well. There is ArchLinux, MEPIS, EnGarde for dedicated servers, and my personal Desktop Distroy of choice is Zenwalk, a Slack-deriv. Or, if you are really, really, adventurous, whip up your own, complete, custom system using the Linux From Scratch project. After a lot of hard work, I have graduated to a normal linux user. still, i am so inexperienced that i have wasted a whole week of person-hours teying to get mysql and vmware tio run in linux before giving up. In both cases, Google assured me that there were more than 2 million other people facing similar problems, with no known straight forward solution. So distinguished Skunklings, I hereby sought your advice on the most suitable linux distribution for linux power users. I would like one with good support, driver support, many applications available (we dont like re-inventing the wheel) etc. I currently use Mandriva, and I am requesting for advice on Mandriva, Fedora, Suse, and the ever popul;ar Unix branched FreeBSD. Hey guys, Anybody know how to do it? When I download using IDM, the video file cannot be rendered. I have just downloaded two videos using Firefox's in-built/default download manager but still the file cannot be rendered. Most comments are about trying to sell kenya as a destination, Brand kenya, software outsourcing etc. What I've not see so far is inward destinations i.e do you know of a kenyan BPO company and what is does ( no google or cck website pls, just think of one offhead ). I understand BPO just well enough to know these guys need to borrow a leaf from tourism sector. As a technos, what does the BPO company render as services?
