We have had at least 60 cases in the last week for ODIN Ransomware. ODIN is the latest variant of the Locky ransomware family. First version added .locky extensions, the second added .zepto, this one adds .odin. Sophos endpoint includes zero-day protection against this new variant and have been blocking it for about a week now. *IMPORTANT: for this protection to work the customer MUST have Malicious Traffic Detection (MTD) enabled.* When dealing with malware cases please always encourage customers to follow our best practice settings as it can be the difference between an attack being stopped or it succeeding. Greetings Skunkers, For those who know the Pesapal API inside out, is there a way to query : 1. the exact amount paid by a customer 2. the MPESA transaction/confirmation code 3. the reason for a FAILED status (for the purpose of informing the customer on the next appropriate steps to take to resolve the failure) Currently I am only able to get status (COMPLETED|PENDING|FAILED|INVALID) and payment method. I think the other details (#1,#2,#3 above) are important to improve the customer's interaction with a system. Anyone has this info? -- Ndungi Kyalo

There's some local guys who claim to hook up freelancers to such jobs but at a fee, and I've told her that's probably a scam too. Problem is I don't know where to refer her to. For Windows Server shares, one way to mitigate the spread of ransomware files is by using FSRM to create a filter for files with the ransomware payloads file name extension. It should block the writing of such files and notify you which user's pc is attempting to write the offending file onto the network shared. Hello All. Asking all Network Engineers especially in the Wireless Field. >From my observations in most places,eg restaurants,coffee shops etc,most of the Access Points in use are 2.4GHz AP.Now we can all agree that 2.4Ghz spectrum is usually fully congested,hence sometimes even the experience becomes bad for people. I see most establishments are either using TP-Links,Ubiquiti Nanostations or Unifi and others rely on the ISP provided router. An equipment like Unifi tends to start degrading after reaching around 40 users. Now with the way the trend is going,most devices are now even coming with dual band chipsets eg iphones and the like. My question to the forum is. 1) Why don't establishments want to put dual-band APs? 2) is their a good dual-band AP that somebody can recommend? I know equipments like Ruckus and Xirrus can get the job done..but we all know that few companies will cough up large amounts of cash for just an AP. what are your thoughts? Regards Cynthia.

Outgoing Outlook Emails

Good day guys, I am having a problem here if anyone could give a pointer I will appreciate: There is a mail server running mdaemon and the mails are relayed through AK. Some users (two of them) are able to recieve mails on outlook and also send to local domain. *However, they are not able to send to outside domains.* All other users are fine I have deleted and recreated one of the users account, tried to send to outside domain and sends only one or two emails and goes back to the same problem. Please note that there is no error returned and the sent mail goes to sent folder. Sending using webmail is fine though. Asante -- Warm Regards, G. Karani

Hello Skunks. Quick query about running BIND in the chroot (jailed) environment. In earlier versions, we used to have forwarders i.e. Pulic DNS Servers configured in named.conf Now I have successfully set up the same in RHEL 7. Lookup works okay yet I cannot figure out how the setup is forwarding some requests. I have no Public DNS entries in neither the ethernet conf file nor resolv.conf Where is the forwarding happening ? BR.
