This is a practical and simplified look at the Flexkom business model as it stands at present. This is for any of you who want to gain a general understanding of the company and the business. I hope this will help you to grasp the concept of Flexkom so that you can see what a phenomenal opportunity this is to get involved with. Flexkom is a state of the art business that is using the latest technology available to build a new shopping experience for both consumers and retailers. It is giving retailers the opportunity to fight back against the "big boys" who are the big supermarkets, and for them to bring their business into the online world. It is a blend of m-commerce and e-commerce, and the online and offline world. The retail shops who join Flexkom have a Flex Terminal in their shop which the Flex Cards transactions are processed through. The consumer uses the card to purchase goods and services from Flexkom outlets, and they are then given a cash benefit which is paid onto their cards. The consumer can then take the card and use their cash rewards at any other Flexkom outlet like a universal credit note against the purchase of a new product or service, so giving them the saving to be used absolutely anywhere they go, as long as it is a Flexkom outlet. The great thing about this for retailers is that they are given the opportunity to issue these cards to consumers, and everytime that consumer shops somewhere else with their Flexkom Card the retailer earns a small percentage in commission from that transaction. How great is that for the retailer, this can be a very lucrative area for any retailer who joins Flexkom. The Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANET) in collaboration with @iLabAfrica are organising a stakeholder forum on the 4th of July to discuss the laptop for Schools initiative that is due to be rolled out by the Government. This forum invites all stakeholders in the education and ICT sector to present position papers regarding this initiative. I welcome you to participate by presenting your views on the following aspects of the Laptop for Schools Initiative: 1. What is the device? 2. What is the nature of the content? (Format, mode of delivery etc) 3. Who will generate the content and carry out QA? 4. Monitoring and Evaluation System 5. Security of the Devices 6. Disposal of Devices The forum will take place on 4th July from 9am to 5pm in the Strathmore University Auditorium. Position papers are welcome.
