Listers, *AfTLD’s Policy and Annual General Meeting Livingstone Zambia July 23 – 27 2012* * * The Africa Top Level Domains Organization (AfTLD), the association of African country code top level domains (ccTLDs) in collaboration with the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA), will be hosting its policy and annual General Meeting in Livingstone (Zambia) for Francophone and Anglophone African ccTLDs in July 2012. The Policy meeting which will be hosted by ZICTA, the Zambian regulator, will be held from 23 – 27 July 2012 and will focus on enhancing the visibility of African ccTLDs through branding and marketing, examining the likely impact of new gTLDs on African ccTLDS as well enhancing the robustness and efficiency of African registries by improving the technical infrastructure. The Policy meeting is in line with AfTLD’s key strategic objective of building capacity of African ccTLDs with an aim of improving and enhancing Africa’s internet infrastructure. The Livingstone Policy and annual general meeting is among a series of regular events that AfTLD holds on an annual basis. The event follows a successful workshop for Francophone ccTLDS held in Ouagadougou Burkina Faso from 9 to 13 January 2012. As has been the case with the past events, the Livingstone workshop is supported by AfNIC, ISOC, LexSynergy and Africa in Onespace – AfTLD’s consistent sponsors and partners. It is assumed that DIT already has the Veri-Sign SSL certificate available for implementation. *4*** Installation and configuration of File & Print Servers. · Two servers working as a cluster must be installed and configured. · Current data from existing file servers must be migrated into the new file server. 2 File Servers Clustered 2 File Servers Clustered It is assumed that DIT will be responsible for all backups of data before migration occurs. RESOURCE will not regard any workstation or end user configuration as part of the scope. If required, such requirements would need to be carried out by either DIT *5*** Installation and configuration of Microsoft SQL Server 2008. · Full SQL Cluster must be configured with at least one server in each data center. 2 SQL Servers Clustered 2 SQL Servers Clustered It is assumed that the scope will only cater for the implementation of a new SQL Server instance and the relevant databases in support of the new products, and does not include implementing or migrating any of the existing or old databases to the SQL clusters. *6*** Installation and configuration of Microsoft Systems Center 2007. · System Center Operations Manager (SCOM). · Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). · SQL Cluster must host the databases for SCOM and SCCM. · A new WSUS must be installed and configured as backend of SCCM. 1 SCCM Server 1 SCOM Server 1 WSUS Server It is assumed that during the design phase the exact scope and requirements of both SCCM and SCOM would be concluded that will determine the requirements definition and features that will be incorporated in the implementation. As such, the implementation scope should be regarded as an estimate, and will be adjusted based on the final design. *7*** Installation and configuration of Rights Management Server 1 RMS Server The scope and requirements of the Rights Management Services is not clear, and as such it is assumed that iO Consulting will only be responsible for the basic setup and configuration of the backend services. DIT will be responsible for all backups of all data that will be affected by the RMS policies. . *8*** Migration of Mailboxes · Migration of mailboxes from current Exchange 2007 mailbox servers. · Uninstallation of legacy Exchange. · Decommissioning of old Active Directory Servers. DIT will be responsible for all backups of all mailboxes and communication to users prior to the migration. . *9*** Installation and configuration of latest Symantec Backup Exec and Symantec Enterprise Vault to provide high-performance disk to disk to tape backup solution for Microsoft Exchange, SQL Servers and File Servers. The Backup and Archiving solution should cater for automatic email and file archiving, it should be configured to meet all the regulatory and compliance factor. · Installation and configuration of relevant Symantec Backup agents (Deduplication, Exchange, SQL, AD, File Server). It is assumed that all the required hardware, including servers, storage and tape devices are in place, correctly specified and configured. It is assumed that the network infrastructure with sufficient bandwidth is in place for all backup, replication and archiving requirements. *10*** Documentation · Detailed documentation showing all configurations carried out must be provided to DIT. Safaricom web hosting

Good people, What are your experiences hosting sites with Safaricom Domain Services? One major pro they have is that their servers are right here in .ke. But their support seems to be taking ages to respond to my questions, compared to number 2 on my list, sasahost.com, who have ridiculously fast response times, not counting the online chat thingy with their support peeps. Pls let me know your experiences before I commit myself. Much thanks!

Do you mind mention the viable alternatives you are seeing for those a tad curious ? The reason I though we need them is I would not think the cellphone companies would trust a programmable solution for reason of protecting their revenue. How would they be certain whoever is trying to authenticate is the valid user if that data can be easily changed? And if we make it programmable once, would that in essence lock the phone to one cellphone company? Probably Burachara relinquished his position at Nairobinet on taking the CEO's position at KENIC. We have seen this culture before, like when Esther Passaris relinquished her position at Adopt-Alight to run as Mayor of Nairobi, and When Paul Kukubo relinquished his position at 3-Mice to take up the position of CEO at ICT Board. But in all cases, major conflicts of interest have ensued, and this should not be allowed to take place. The Board of Directors’ job is to define strategy and direction of the company. If the current strategic plan implemented by KENIC failed under the chairmanship of Burachara, how can he claim to be able to turn around the organisation as the CEO and come up with a new strategy? If the current strategic plan had major gaping issues, who should be made accountable? Under what authority did he get to the position of interim CEO? Did the board sanction the appointment? What are the qualifications of the change manager? Was KENIC's HR policy followed in the process of hiring him? Is Buruchara the right person to bring change at KENIC? What is his track record at NairobiNet? If he could not transform NairobiNet to the league of Wananchi Online or Africa Online, do we expect him to transform KENIC to the regional leader we all envision? There were interviews for a new CEO done several months ago. What were the results? Members need to know because company resources were used in the hiring process. It should also be noted that the board has been a negative influence and interferes with the running of KENIC, causing major instabilities. How can they explain the high turnover of CEOs? There is a very dark cloud hovering around. For a Board that has managed to only register 25,000 domains in the lifetime of KENIC, compared to .co.za's 780,000 and 100,000 additions annually, isn't it time for a major overhaul? I had proposed on this list to have board members run for a maximum of two terms of 3 years each. This will ensure synergy and fresh ideas are injected into our KENIC, and propel its growth and success. The KENIC AGM has always been made around July, but so far, members have not got any communication from the Board convening the AGM. If there is no communication forthcoming, the members should call for an extra-ordinary AGM to chat the way forward, and streamline the company. It was a shame really that visibility of KENIC in the just concluded EAIGF held here in Nairobi was minimal. These are the opportunities that should be capitalised for publicity and marketing. All Did all the sales people run away from this forum? I remember back in the days when my mail box would be bombard while someone selling this and that (not that I really fancied those mails), but if you needed something we could just go back and ask and you would get tonnes of quotations - Now I only get one or two if lucky :-( Maybe they just dont respond to my requests anymore :-( If so, where can I get a technical sales oriented lists, where I could get a variety whenever am sourcing for something? ./Ok3ch
