Listers, As you are aware Kenya will be hosting the sixth United Nations Internet Governance forum from 27 - 30 September 2011. The last forum was held in Vilnius Lithuania in September 2010 and it marked the end of the initial five year period. There was overwhelming consensus on the need to continue with the forum which brings together stakeholders involved in managing the Internet from governments, civil Society, academia and the technical community on equal footing. Kenya has been an active participant, our very own East African Internet Governance Forum and Kenya Internet Governance forum has provided a model that has been studied and replicated across the world. This is the first time the meeting is being held in Sub-Saharan Africa and we urge all listers to register, the meeting will provide a great opportunity to network with peers from all continents involved in managing the Internet. The stock Android apps are stored in /system/app instead of /data/app where your installed apps are stored. /system is a read-only partition so in order to remove anything from it you will need root on the phone in order to remount it as writeable. That said you would only need temporary root access. Most people root their Android phones by getting temporary root access and flashing a custom recovery image and ROM so that have permanent root access. It also possible to get root access once, make whatever changes you need and then reboot the phone and no longer have root. This can be done on the Idiot with a number of different exploits that you can find via Google such as psneuter or rageagainstthecage. You basically copy the exploit to your phone using ADB and then run it and then you log into the phone with ADB shell as root. With root you can remount the /system partition as writeable using ADB remount. I have gotten as far as removing some of the stock apps from the phone this way. Once the system partition is writeable you can delete apps from the phone using ADB shell by deleting the .apk and .odex files (e.g. rm /system/app/GenieWidget.apk). I did this just to reduce the amount of stuff in the app tray so I haven't tried to reinstall them on the SD card. It might be possible instead to copy to the apps you want to remove to your PC using ADB pull, then delete them from the phone as above and finally reinstall them after setting the install location to the SD card using pm. I'm not sure that this would work but you never know. Even if it does work, I'm not sure it would actually you save you any space on your phone since /system is separate partition from /data and /data is probably where you are running out of space. To take advantage of the space freed up by deleting the apps you would have to repartition the phone to reduce the size of /system and increase the size of /data which I think would be quite a challenge and probably quite risky. WARNING: any time you try to hack your phone like this you risk really messing it up so be careful and don't blame me if something goes wrong. If you do get into trouble you can always restore your phone to its original factory state by downloading the firmware image and reinstalling it from the SD card. You can get the original Safaricom firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Huawei_U8150_IDEOS. However this will wipe all your data from the phone. Josh

Skunks Anyone know how to force to make all apps install all apps to install on SD card without of having to root the device ? some of these apps such as mail , contacts are quickly hogging space on my ideos phone and cannot by default be installed on SD Rgds Kevin

Skunks, I am selling a Zenithink ZT-180 running android 2.2 4GB NAND Flash & 512RAM which features a 10.1" touch screen interface that has served me well mostly as an e-book reader but in which I also have a number of other apps running e.g Pulse reader, Evernote, Bible , dolphin browser hd etc. Comes with wifi, HDMI port, USB and support for 3g using a dongle though i preferred to tether it with my ideos, , I need to say that this is not an ipad, so dont expect advanced ipad features but it has served me well and only selling it because I have bought a Galaxy Tab.
