Fair Trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach which aims to promote sustainability and help producers in developing countries; it focuses on exports from developing countries to OECD countries. To date products covered by Fair Trade principles have been consumables such as food, drink or clothing. Fair Trade Software is a new initiative getting under way in the Netherlands and the UK. Modern software is highly modular, and the production process allows for components to be written in developing countries whilst the overall end-product is designed, assembled and delivered in the OECD country. This new way of working has been enabled by two developments: -> Open Source technologies and the Open Source philosophy of Internet teams (“communities”) -> increasing availability of necessary telecommunications links to and within developing countries. This is not charity or low cost outsourcing – it is for-profit and can be regarded as leveraged aid. The structural results will be sustained economic partnership with, and technology transfer to, entities and individuals in developing countries. As with the use of Open Source software, the Fair Trade Software model can become part of corporate social responsibility - a trade system based on justice & fairness will be better for all. The talk will describe current status and plans and is planned to take place at the iHub <http://ihub.co.ke/> on Tuesday the 22nd at 5.30 to 7pm and this session will engage Developers only. The next session will be the next morning of Wednesday the 23rd from 9am to 12pm and this session will engage Entrepreneurs in general. Portability: Company in problems

Just come across this article on the Nairobi Star. Hmm there's trouble even before portability takes root in 2 weeks time. I am a firm believer in conspiracy theories ... me sees the hand of a certain market leader in this ;-) Wonder which company is suing Nokia or NSN? Pure speculation Kiania D. ..... Nokia is suing the Kenyan company that is going to manage the clearing house for Mobile Number Portability next month over unpaid bills. The company, Porting Access Kenya, is being sued by four different organisations and people over the unpaid bills which amount to nearly US$4 million. According to court documents seen by the Nairobi Star, Nokia is the lead plaintif and is suing for Sh290 million (US$3.7 million), while Daima Bank wants Sh12 million, businessman Sanjeet Thethy Sh54 million which includes interest and lawyer Njeri Onyango Sh3.5 million. Responding to the Nokia lawsuit, "the defendant categorically denies that the said supplied goods were valued or amounted to US$ 3.7 million," states Musimba in an affidavit to the court. Porting Access won the tender to manage the MNP clearing house out of seven firms that tendered and will charge a fee of Sh200 per number ported. Launching MNP in Kenya has had a troubled history. The plans, originally announced in 2004 were put on hold in 2007 after the regulator cited the high costs of implementing the system. They were then resurrected in late 2008 for launch between March and September 2009. Due to be offered by July, the deadline was pushed back to the end of 2010, and now to April 2011. The Mobile World subscriber database reports that Safaricom is the market leader with a market share of 82% with Zain coming in at 11.3%. Mikrotik and Credit Card Issues

Hi, Tried to verify a KCB Card on Mikrotik account server but can't get past the card verification process - always FAILS. Has anyone succeeded in verifying a local debit card and managed to procure a licence key through their credit card option... Kindly advice on experiences and or other alternatives.
