Password strengths

Apparently a password with alphabetical characters is strong as any other with mixed characters, only that one is harder to remember. An attacker brute forcing would use the same character set to crack the two. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem - tons and tons of ebooks, photos, movies and series spread over dozens of PCs, laptops, externals and flashdisks and therefore impossible to find anything. I've now managed to successfully update to Gingerbread-2.3.5 by using http://lix.in/-a7f0fb 2.3.4 was a bit buggy (for me) because I could not manage to login to my gmail account at all. This 2.3.5 does it instantly, responds faster.. How do I upgrade my Galaxy Mini from Froyo to Gingerbread? It those ones you get from Safaricom shop. I need a better relationship with Google because he/she has failed to show me how this can be done officially.
