Today morning, I send a text only for the 3 notorious responses from Safaricom saying insufficient credit. A quick *144# reveals that the credit is sufficient to call 20 people sembuse text. How could this happen? Ps. I am looking for technical suggestions in as much as having the experience sucked

Hello Skunk*s Is there anyone on this forum who can say they are happy with KDN? >From my dealings with this company, I fear that something is not quite right. Actually, if KDN is surviving in the Kenyan market, then any company can! What with the absence of any semblance of Customer Service? Or is it just me who is not quite lucky with them? their grps has been google only service for the 3rd day running. I wish they would make some announcement to say when services will be fully restored. Good Luck Orange.. :-) Which brings me to this question about GENERAL networks and operators : Is it the equipment or people running them? Is it shortcuts in implementation? Is it corporate sabotage by competitors or staff? Is it that we cannot sustain network reliability? what excatly is the problem? >From experience of setting up systems a few year back, we ran an intensive FreeBSD system on a network for almost 2 years without a single outage. I just dont get it. I think telecommuncation systems are the rot and most unreliable pathetic systems in the whole tech industry. Infact they are rubbish compared to systems much lower in the system chain. How is it that we can sustain networks for an uptime of 100% per year while the much much more expensive systems drop and collapse frequently. Amazing isn't it?

Open Source Awrds

This is an open invitation to members of this forum to the inaugural Kenya Open Source Awards to be held on 27th May at the Panafric Hotel, Nairobi. The event will kick off at 2.30. It will be preceded by a media briefing at 12.30 which will also be attended by the guest oh honour. As earlier communicated, details are on our website, www.lpakenya.org. The nominations are still ongoing. Its amazing the kind of project nominations that we have received so far. One of the biggest gains that we intend to make from these awards is to map the FOSS community on Kenya. We hope to get a clear picture of who is involved in what project in the FOSS community. Its a kind of an audit of our FOSS activity. We again appeal to you to nominate any individuals, projects or organizations that are actively involved in Open Source so that we can consider them along those that we already have. We know that there is quite a bit of FOSS activity going on out there but nobody knows what the other is doing. For instance, do you know of a hospital that has implemented an open source solution like Care2X? Or a Government Ministry that is running entirely on Linux (I have heard about the Ministry of Youth Affairs but am not sure, anyone with info?). Anyone who has helped an organization to fully migrate to FOSS? Or an Educational institution that uses/trains a lot of Open Source (Like Strath)? Or anyone who has a FOSS project at Freshmeat or Sourceforge etc? Any Individuals who have done some innovative solutions on Open Source? This information will be highly appreciated and we urge you all to come out and support this initiative by giving this information. Please dont forget that you cn also nominate yourself or your organization. Pass the word around.
