While reading further about this issue of KPLC transmitting data over power lines, I come across this article. http://www.ohgizmo.com/2009/01/12/ces-2009-data-over-power-lines-makes-netw… which basically talks (and shows some cool images) of transmitting data domestically over power lines. Im just thinking, if someone moneyed enough got these things en masse, and marketed them affordably, wouldnt they be a good substitute to the whole "networking" charade for many homes and offices? Where im i getting this wrong?

Guardin against ATM thefts

I believe many of us have heard of someone who was forced by thugs to go to an ATM and withdraw cash. So an idea popped. Why can't banks issue atleast 2 PINs per ATM card. If a person is forced to withdraw cash then they can use the second (distress) PIN. This PIN will let the system display that the person only has a fraction of the amount in his/her account. Once that PIN has been used, using the first PIN will not display the correct amount in the account until the person visits one of the bank's branch. This way thugs only get a fraction of the original amount. Thugs would know that a person has 2 PINs but it's a 50/50 gamble on whether they will use the right PIN. Thugs may force the person to give up his/her 2 PINs. If they use the second PIN there is no way of knowing the true amount in the person's account even if they used the first PIN. If they used the first PIN before the second PIN then it's a lucky day for the thugs. Whether use of the second PIN should generate a distress call is another issue. Atleast the above offers some way of protection for bank customers. Thugs will get away with some of the money but not as much as they could have gotten away with. o_O!

Has anyone boarded the new smart buses yet.. i bordeded thm once and i think the concept is good, the fares are reasonalble the software is great but the hardware is letting them down..i thinnk their card readers should be improved..they take forever to scan so the conductor has to really struggle and i mean physically force the card into the reader.....what do you guys think

Does anyone have more details on this? thanks http://www.telegeography.com/cu/article.php?article_id=30398 Central African Backbone project goes ahead The World Bank has approved a new project called the Central African Backbone (CAB), which aims to increase the geographical reach and usage of regional broadband network services in up to eleven central African countries, whilst reducing access prices. The initial phase of the CAB will take place in Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Chad, where the connectivity component of the project will leverage the existing fibre-optic network laid along the Chad-Cameroon oil pipeline to form the core CAB network and support the deployment of interconnected networks to establish a regional cable infrastructure. Aside from the connectivity aims of the CAB, other components include development of e-government, strengthening of regulatory frameworks and assistance in restructuring government telecoms institutions with the aim of liberalising markets. The World Bank said in a statement that central African countries currently offer the worst quality and most expensive internet service in the continent. Eight additional countries are eligible to take part in the CAB, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, The Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome & Principe and Sudan. The project, which is being supported by a partnership between the World Bank and the African Development Bank, is expected to achieve its initial aims in Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Chad by 2016, but as its scope widens it is expected to run for ten years, with total investment reaching around USD215 million. The CAB aims to raise USD98 million from the private sector, with help from the International Finance Corporation. Contribution for the week. A novice view. ( Platform WinXP pro ) Short History : A while back when studying C# for the Mbyte Meter project, I came across Windows Management Instrumentation. WMI is something very new to me and was the best suited API for my project. Understanding it is a bit complex but last evening, after weeks of struggling, I managed a break through. There are many on the net who have not been able to succeed with this below. A potential future project came to my mind about creating an automatic Ip address, Gateway and DNS changer tool. This tool will take in set paramenters and the user just has to select the site, activate profile they are on and work away! The code below is for IP address only, but at a much later stage full development will take place. // WMI has classes that assist you interact with hardware on your laptop/desktop/server. In the case of Network Adapters, WMI provides 3 classes. One that is of importance is Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration . It has various methods and properties and of use is the EnableStatic Method. The agency, charged with protecting consumer interests, had not updated its policy on endorsements in nearly three decades, well before the Internet became a force in shaping consumer tastes. The new rules attempt to make more transparent corporate payments to bloggers, research firms and celebrities that help promote a product. "Given that social media has become such a significant player in the advertising area, we thought it was necessary to address social media as well," said Richard Cleland, assistant director for the division of advertising practices at the FTC.
