ISOC-KE 2013 @ Grace Thanks for your inquiry. In retrospect, am quiet sure all subscribers know of our monthly meetings that also acts as our focal point, apart from sharing on the mailing list. Regarding the successful event, we are all aware that it happened during Xmas holidays, and this is the time guys are resuming, albeit slowly due to opening of schools for those who are parents. The Event Working Group is working on the report and once complete will be disseminated accordingly. We have an on-line presence www.isoc-ke.org that we are populating, since the previous website www.isoc.or.ke/ which was sponsored by KENIC could not be maintained due to the happenings at KENIC. Those are some of the challenges we have been experiencing and am sure you must have come across this info if you are on the mailing loop. However, we had a discussion last week and we are due to make a courtesy call to the new KENIC officers, to see discuss and how we can resolve between using the two domains. Chair, Barrack is spearheading this process. We are also on FB as well as Tweeter account. I hope the secretary shared these during the chapter launch last month. Indeed we have challenges. The first one is lack of volunteers. Although we have over 200 members, very few are actually passionate and volunteering their time for the chapter's activities. It is only thro active participation that we can be able to utilize membership synergies. On this note, the Chapter is preparing a Strategic Plan that has been in discussion for some time now, and will be presented for adoption in the next meeting. I therefore wish to kindly request for member with various skills; @Accounting, Project Management, Research, Law or any other professional capacity to willingly volunteer and kindly get in touch with the Secretariat, to get aligned to the various Working Groups; - Membership - Advocacy - Capacity building - Research - Outreach - Fundraising so that we can utilize our diverse synergies to drive the Chapter's agenda. Regards Charles Oloo Picking up from the discussion we had in December, where we had an event but no information, I was hoping that we could assist to make our online presence felt. Compare our website http://isoc.or.ke/ with Switzerland, that only came up on or around Sep 2012 http://www.isoc.ch/ Hata contacts sisi hatuna (no email!!!!). Charles, First thanks for the link to the website that has more information. I hope we can make it look more professional this year and if I remember correctly, someone did volunteer to do this. Was it Kelvin? I also hope we can agree to keep one website (the person who was looking for information got to the .ke first....) While I agree that monthly meetings are a focal point, not everyone can attend. I get the feeling that a lot more happens in the meetings than is reported. Please dont punish those who do not attend the meetings (remember ISOC Ke is a country wide volunteer organisation and not everyone can make it to Nairobi every month) In this day and age, organisations have to find creative ways of involving even those who do not participate in face to face meetings. Information is therefore critical and unless all important information is relayed, how can people contribute? On that note, a) Was ISOC Ke registered? With which by-laws? b) Who are the interim officials as per that registration? c) Who is keeping the registration documents? d) So far has ISOC been funded, and for what activities have the funds been used? d) Apart from this bid to host the next AIGF, what other big things are in the pipeline for ISOC ke and who are co-ordinating which project? I ask these questions, not because I am opposed to anybody, but because there just seems to be very little information about ISOC Ke and I think in this new year we can do better. In any case, most of this information is public and should be on the website or at least on this list. 2013/1/11 Charles Oloo <oloo6382@gmail.com>

My suggestion was/is that while long term strategic plans etc are put together, at minimum a simple 'about' page be added to the website, and possible a FAQ. Which can develop over time and cover all kinds of questions. At ISOC-NY our solution has been to maintain a mediawiki so, for instance, our about page goes to here - http://isoc-ny.org/wiki/Wiki:Community_Portal and the wiki contains resource repositories such as this one on accessibility http://isoc-ny.org/wiki/Accessibility_resources which develop over time. A wiki allows for community involvement and also individual WG's to maintain their own presence, but does require some vigilance, and some degree of access control skill to block spambots etc j On Fri, Jan 11, 2013 at 3:48 AM, Charles Oloo <oloo6382@gmail.com> wrote:

Joly, A wiki indeed would be a good thing, I remember that is how we got the By-Laws done. There was also collaboration in the UN project and lots of updates as well. I hope the same principles can be applied for other upcoming events:) 2013/1/11 Joly MacFie <joly@punkcast.com>
