I opine that it would be a good idea to steer clear of overused term. Seemingly, every proposed and new entity proclaims unto itself as “umbrella body” - regardless of its recent entry and relatively less experience on local technology landscape. Simply appearing as superimposing selves as supreme “apex” entity over vary many other, long existed, associations, initiatives and proven working collaborations. Publicly interpreted “supremacy recognition” turf wars effectively turns off many prospective new members, partners and collaborators. We don't need that or want it replayed. I Illustratively, see attached image from yet another new “umbrella body” (incidentally the message sent today to ke-internetusers mailing list as spam - how very professional!) “The Society of Software Developers of Kenya (S.S.D.K) is a registered body under the societies act ( cap 108) as un umbrella body that advocates for the interest of all professionals in the software industry in Kenya....” http://www.ssdk.or.ke/ A successful local ISOC Chapter ought to be refreshingly different to be most welcome by everyone everywhere – all possible by avoiding past associations disenfranchisement lessons learnt. thanks, Alex
