Re: [ISOC_KE] isoc Digest, Vol 11, Issue 17

Dear All *RE: ISOC Board of Trustees request for ISOC Kenya* I totally agree with Mctim. I think we should have been upraised on the voting process and procedure. Advance notice need to have been provided and relevant information regarding the candidates communicated, so that we can analyze and vote for personalities we think could take ISOC community to the next level. For instance, I just came across the request from Prof Gian. Knowing that if I dont do it I may forget and may fail to beat a deadline, if there is any, I went ahead and goggled his Bio.just to make sure who he is. Does a Chapter cast one vote or we vote as individuals. How many contenders are in the contest. This are very vital since some do not know them leave alone hearing about some of them. It is not easy to cast a vote for someone you have never seen or heard of and this put us in very awkward position. . Dear Members,
Prof Gihan Dias is seeking the support of the Kenyan Chapter, If you endorse him just reply Ok then we will communicate accordingly. So far we have not received any other request.
he sounds like an OK candidate to me. On the other hand, I don't know him, but I DO know the other 2 candidates at:
http://www.internetsociety.org/candidates-2012-board-trustees-election
The ISOC BoT's should be made up of experienced ppl. Using that metric I would vote for them in this order:
1. Gihan 2. Rudi 3. Sala
using the metric of "people i interact with regularly, i would order them thusly;
1. Sala 2. Rudi
How are we as a chapter going to decide how we cast our vote? Does the chapter get one vote as a chapter, or do we all get an individual vote in the global election? Since we aren't (yet) a formal chapter, we may not be able to vote in this election!!

*RE: ISOC Board of Trustees request for ISOC Kenya* Just seen the announcement. The Nominations Committee has selected six (6) candidates to be included in the ballot for the Organizational Membership Election and three (3) candidates to be included in the ballot for the Chapter Membership Election. The information is provided at http://www.internetsociety.org/candidates-2012-board-trustees-election Charles

The NOMCOM has thoroughly vetted theses candidates for us, they wouldn't be candidates if they did not meet the extensive criteria, so that work has been done for us! Barrack, are you on the Chapters list? I am not. Can you ask some chapters to send us links that they have published about how they choose? We might find a useful model instead of re-inventing the wheel. -- Cheers, McTim "A name indicates what we seek. An address indicates where it is. A route indicates how we get there." Jon Postel

Charles all, The candidate has specifically written to the chapter requesting for support, as McTim says we may know the other candidates but we have not received any such request from them, all the info needed is on the global ISOC community website. So let's make a decision on whom to endorse as a chapter. All Don't we agree that the candidate that solicit for our support need to share with us what our chapter stand to get from his/her candidature? The choice need to be inclined towards communal benefit. @richard On Tue, May 22, 2012 at 8:23 AM, <otieno.barrack@gmail.com> wrote:

I don't agree at all. The candidate is a Chapter rep...ALL chapters, not just ours. -- Cheers, McTim "A name indicates what we seek. An address indicates where it is. A route indicates how we get there." Jon Postel

Richard, Open opinion is worth listening to in all courses so sharing ones is great. ISOC is global so let us be global in view and reginal when it comes to regions..
