Other than Sudan, the map is rather accurate - check this listing - http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats1.htm - Kenya is number three in terms of internet statistics as at 31st December 2011; ahead of SA.

Low interest in regard to city TLDs: this might be due to market dynamics. Having a city TLDs might be construed to be mean that you operate in that town alone and this might not appeal to a wider audience bearing in mind the mobility of people. Hence most companies will shy away from having city TLDs to their web addresses, more so when people are going continental TLDs way (like .africa, .asia, etc).

Talking about the new string of gTLD, out of the 16 applications from Africa, only 3 are city TLDs from South Africa, What brings the 'low interest' in city TLD applications from Africa?
