This is good news, but the Gov. <KBS> should escalate their acts. Two years ago I bought a phone for 4K, but dint last two hours.  I tried to return it to the seller to no avail, the cops also wouldn't help. I simply threw it away.

Before the announcement, how would innocent people distinguish between fake and original? I think it is unfair to switch off unless there are some plans for compensation.

Why do we allow them in, in the first place? Then how can consumers seek redress in case of complaint?  Do we have legal mechanisms, rather than be told to go report to KBS office to lodge complaint. What if am residing in Turkana or Mandera?  Won't the cost of travel be double the cost of the phone?

Can we then say that our fundamental human rights are not adequately being addressed. I think its is time order was brought in to protect the general innocent public from suffering.

Liz

Really? :) Do you expect an answer to that? One would first have to admit that they have been using a fake phone...:)

Hi Liz,
I've been curious as well but none in my network has had his or hers
switched off including those I suspected would breathe last midnight. I
think they have silently extended the period.

Losing over 600,000 subscribers has major implications on telcos in
any case this seems like a human rights issue :-)

The consumer is not to blame here. If I had my phone locked out i would
have no problem saying it.
We all know the government should have been more responsble in preventing
such a situation.

best regards.

There was a news item to the effect that the switch off will happen within 15 hours. If the telcos started switching off at midnight, they still have a couple of more hours to complete the exercise.RgdsGrace

I think we need to be very careful in our expectations of government...
