Blessed Furahi Day!
In the same light, in Africa, the Chief does not just stroll about. More so, when the Chief's entourage by-passes your homestead and you are the known village elder....certainly this is taken with a pinch of salt and your goose is cooked (or cooking)!
On the tech business front, we certainly expect to hear more on the connection with mobile money that he is said to have come to learn more about.
This is the substantive discussion for the tech community.
We acknowledge the talent and acumen that would attract such a high profile visitor into any country.
PS: Happy Anniversary and house warming
In other important news, it is a good welcome to one of Africa's business leader and philanthropist;

Be blessed.

Unfortunately, the premise of this article is false,
completely. Facebook is NOT trying to beam internet directly
to consumers. As I have stated multiply-we are not
interested in becoming an operator. That is not our business
model. Express WiFi, the project
for which the satellite was meant to provide back haul,
depends on partnerships with local ISPs and operators, who
will remain the locally licensed entities servicing
consumers. Facebook only provides back haul, technology and
investment in local entrepreneurs,
etc. As you will note from the first partnership launched
in Africa-we launched in Nigeria, with Coollink, a Nigerian
ISP.
It would be useful
for all if, given that this group has direct access to me,
people fact checked before writing articles that do a
disservice to readers because they misinform.
I would be
absolutely delighted to provide details about Express WiFi
and any other connectivity initiatives.
As always, I
remain happy to answer any and all questions, on or
off-thread.
Do note, however,
that I am trying to take this week off-we are moving house
and my husband and I are celebrating 14 years of marriage!
I am trying to actually step away from work, to ensure
at least 14 more, so there may be a
delay in replies until next week.
;-)
Best!

What Was Mark Zuckerberg Up To On His Visits To
Kenya And Nigeria?
Hello, All!
Mark was in Kenya and Nigeria
to listen and learn. Those of us who work at
Facebook who live and breathe
Africa have been encouraging him to come get
to know all of the incredible
creativity, entrepreneurship, brilliance and
hustle on our beloved
continent, and he listened and came to see for
himself. In
addition-Facebook’s interest in partnering to drive
connectivity
should not be seen as a threat
to any organizations who share our vision. We
are a partnerships company,
and we are so eager to partner with those
working towards universal
connectivity. And more than a few companies on the
list below can personally
attest to this. But this visit wasn’t about any
specific initiative or
partnership-it really was Mark coming to learn in
Yaba and Nairobi, to hang out
at AfriNolly, and to speak to and learn from
people as passionate as he is
about tech and all the ways tech can support
connection, creativity and
entrepreneurship.
And, of course-he wanted to
eat garri, ugali and jollof rice. But mostly
jollof rice. OF COURSE.
;-)
I am sure that it’s fun to
speculate, but if anyone wants facts, as always,
I am very happy to answer
questions!

Mine is just an observation: I
don't know if there is a connection or it was
just a sad coincidence, that
Mark was in Kenya on the same day as the start
of the Indo-Africa ICT Expo.
