On the Objects: To represent Kenyan Internet Community in fora that deal with Internet Governace is a blanket provision that shall enable the society to give positions when need arises. To work together with other bodies with similar objects is an objects is also a blanket provision to enable the Society partner with other organisations.... Do you think there is a way we can improve these provisions? Do we need other objects? I also noted that so far we are silent on borrowing, ie taking loans...please give your views on the same. Cheers! 2011/9/7 McTim <dogwallah@gmail.com>
Good work Grace!
I think we need to do some work on The Society’s objects:
*a) to promote realization of a safe, open Internet for all Kenyans;*
this is non-controversial
*b) to represent the Kenyan Internet community in fora that deal with governance of the Internet;* * * We already have 2 members of the GAC from KE, various folk participate in IETF and RIR meetings, lots of ppl active in IGF, etc. Does ISOC KE have legitimacy to "to represent the Kenyan Internet community"??
What about an ICANN At-Large Structure, do we want to join ICANN At-Large??
*c) to promote development of Internet in Kenya through, among others, trainings and public education;*
What sort of trainings do we want to do?
*d) to promote development of Internet standards in Kenya;* * * This is ambiguous, are we saying we want to help kenyans become involved in IETF and W3C activities? It suggests we want to develop our own standards here in Kenya, at least that is one interpretation of the sentence. * * * e) to work together with other Kenyan and international bodies with the similar objects.* * * * * While non-controversial this is fairly meaningless. * * * * *--

I have done some work on the by-laws. Please have a look and give your comments. Please note that I have also tried to incorporate the guidelines given by the Societie's Act Regulations (see www.kenyalaw.org) hence some references to Kenya, use of the name society and so on. Cheers!

In that case please lets think of how to distribute duties between the
two
bodies. We must create a relationship that avoids conflict....suggestions???

Grace Imho, we need a board or an entity that can accomodate pioneers of the internet in Kenya or founding members that McTim had mentioned, my two ip addresses :-)

quick question, Shall we have both a board and officers(chair, secretary treasurer?) Joly raised this concern in an earlier email, I also raised it but we seem to have no conclusive answer on that..
