Thank you alex for pointing this out.

I have followed this buy out for a while but i must say the internet and its players are disadvantaged.

A while back an airline delta airline put up a spirited fight to buy out small other competitor airlines in the united states. Though the buy out was later approved by the judicial system the goverment had in fact refused to sanction the sale in a view to promote competition and leverage prices to the customers. After the buy out prices increased for a 2hr flight from 100 usd to 250 usd.

What suddens me most is the lack of similar spirited fight againt comcast in the buy out of netflix, the goverment was and is silent, the us judiciary us silent so is the trade unions. This is a dangerous move to common citizens of any nation.

Facebook just bought watsapp to some this is just business gone good to me i read mischieve that must be stopped. Facebook over the years have voluntarily cooparated with the NSA giving (selling) user data and just recently the NSA came under critism for phone tapping.

Is it coincidence that facebook just bought watsapp a phone application which i anticipate facebook will open its floodgates to scruitiny from the NSA?

Who will protect this small firms that do not play ball to the NSA but the work around would be a buy out to big firms that sell out user data the facebooks and the comcast of today ?

Another contribution....

Cognisant of the fact that Internet of the 90s morphed from a "public park" into a "private mall" of today. FCC is a failure in this regard...

Hi GG,

Agreed, i just posted the nine areas to kick start the discussion, Gakuru has introduced and interesting area with his post, Daniel Omondi has also raised an area we can think through. I am keen to know what is happening in so far as enhanced cooperation is concerned, is it an area relevant to Kenya that can be discussed? many thanks for your contribution

@Barrack, previously listers have come up with what are our priority issues which are then debated in f2f meeting during the Kenya IGF. Sometimes the issues have been similar to what is being discussed globally but sometimes we have had our own unique issues.  As Gakuru says, can we ponder and decide what is relevant for us?

Barrack,

Before automatically 'adopting' perhaps we need to pause and ponder what motivated, how, why, and who set this discussion agenda? At least that would help our collective better understanding of the set discussion agenda, scope and possible outcomes?

Hi Ali,

In addition to WCIT, we also have the Net Mundial meeting in Brazil. I also came across an email in which the following key areas were highlighted as themes for 2014:

1.      Local policies enabling Internet Access

2.      Content Creation, Dissemination and Use

3.      Internet as an engine for growth and development

4.      IGF and the Future of Internet ecosystem

5.      Enhancing Digital Trust

6.      Internet and Human Rights

7.      Critical Internet Resources

8.      Emerging Issues

Can we adopt this to guide our discussions in 2014?, what are the main issues under the various thematic areas that we might want to explore?

Best Regards

Dear Listers,

As the Internet Governance debate unfolds globally , it would be good for Kenya to establish its position. In light of ongoing debates what do you think should be our priorities for 2014? Where should we channel our energies so that we can contribute effectively to the global process?

Best Regards
