Dear Charles

No one has created any hurdles and barriers, I drafted the call for nominations from the YMCA members meeting and the bylaws, theres nothing Ive created outside of those two documents. I remember forwarding the draft to the rest of the officials(you included)  for perusal and feedback and you gave a go ahead, I dont understand why you know nothing on the arrangement of the AGM.

Having been in the YMCA meeting, I recall that the six months membership requirement was agreed upon because the  office bearers ought to have a good understanding of ISOC mission and values to be able to lead the society. I dont think a member who joined a month ago will be able to do so (The issue is still open for discussion)

I agree with you that we should have a meeting to discuss on the modalities of the elections, but since we dont get substantial attendance during meetings, I suggest that we do a one week structured online discussions with the members on the mailing list so that everyone gets an opportunity to participate, then we sum it up with a members meeting, either physical or via webex.

Indeed we should have clear structures after the AGM, for this I table the issue of board of trustees on this mailing list for discussions. Please feel free to contribute.

If anyone wishes to join me in the elections committee, please feel free to send me a mail on or off this list.

My 2 cents for now.

Dear elizabeth orembo,

I wish to join this AGM debate, having seen several concerns from members, and I wish to request the membership to grasp this opportunity to elect leaders who selflessly move the chapter to the next level. To comment on this I wish to react to Kivuva's assertion that "every member who meets the ISOC  bylaws is entitled to his democratic right to vie."

As a member of the executive, I totally agree with Kivuva. Having had the privilege to serve in the office, I have noted very many anomalies and inconsistencies. But I can attribute them to any new/young entity propping up. Since the all the Chapter membership are volunteers, opportunity need to be given to all membership to participate in the elections and vie for any position democratically. I say this because in-spite of having a large number of membership, there is very little involvement of the membership in chapter activities which translates to ownership. As matters stand now, this element is missing, and can only be corrected if all bonafide members are allowed to participate in all processes without erecting huddles and barriers.

Expression of interest is to be sent to info@isoc.or.ke. and will be received by the Secretary. Who will do the vetting? the Secretary alone or with the Chair? Do members discuss and agree with this arrangement? Am a member of the executive and know nothing about any arrangement or how the AGM will be done or conducted. It would be my humble request that a membership meeting be held so that the members can discuss and agree on how the AGM will be held. Fir instance, who will preside over the process. Whi is the returning Office? In case of any contention or tie, who will arbitrate?  This are many of the salient issues that to me, need to be addressed first.

The other issue is the creation of Trustees. I wish to admit that We have had a terrible outing in the Executive, without structures and procedures to operate and even resolve office matters, that have unfortunately forced to seek help from ISOC global. This problem should not be allowed to rare its ugly head again. It would have been better if we went to the AGM with proper definitive structures and procedures of operation, to guide the incoming office, especially the Trustees who will oversee the general management of the chapter and serve as an organ to provide guidance, direction and resolution of any conflict. This structure misses out in the current by-laws and I would request for its addition.

Setting up of structures was an objective the current interim office should put in place. Efforts toward the same were thwarted and never materialized.

There are two lists. One on the AMS and another one of ORION. I understand that some members on the Orion list dont receive mails from AMS and vise a versa. How can this be resolved, as receiving communique from the chapter is a fundamental right of every member.

Lastly, this paid up membership list. When did the un-paid membership told to pay up in order to be eligible to participate in the election process. To me, this is unfare, since the chapter stopped holding meetings very many months ago and there has not been a platform to inform members of any updates so that they can contribute, since ever member has an equal stake in the society.

Thanks Barrack, Liz, and Daniel for the contributions.

Since there have never been any election, every member who meets the ISOC  bylaws is entitled to his democratic right to vie. The officials that have  been in office have been interim and only in acting capacity therefore it's  logical that they be allowed to vie for one term. After all, it's the members who will decide who to lead them.

Going forward, office holders will only be required to run for one term,  then pave way for other leaders to take the helm of the chapter. A chapter  that infuses new blood, new ideas, and diversity is set for greater heights.

 Warm regards

   Hi kivuva, listers
To answer some of your questions.
Im the one managing info@isoc.or.ke and im not vying for any position.  Im yet to recieve nominations from members.  The elections will be free n fair, ill publish the list of nominees on  this this list as we approach the elections. Once a member has been  nominated I will ask for a statement of interest from thr person before  adding him/ her to the list.  The minutes of members' meeting are ussually published on the list for  further contributions even from members who did not attend. So feel free to  go through them and contribute.

The chapter has an AMS portal with a list of all the registered members  and their ISOC reg numbers managed by the interim chair n vice chair. It will be published in the course of the week.  The issue of membership fees came up when we were registering the  society under the AG. In the first meeting after isoc_ke being chartered,  members agrees to contribute ksh.500 for registration purpose, those
contribution was also to be considered as membership fee. Im the one who  recieved the money (details of which ill publish in the course of the week)

Hope this answers some of your questions. Lets keep the discussions
 going.
 Regards.
