Barrack,
Apologies, to get on board the discussion late, but in a
way to answer your question:-
For the objectives of the local chapter; given our
unique set of circumstances, I'm looking at ways and means
how the much more enlightened internet
community should harness resources to open up the
internet space
for the greater good of the rest of the country. Statistics
show that we have a huge digital divide in our country
right now, that we need to do all within our means to bridge.
Let it be our aim to lobby, marshall and support
efforts aiming at providing internet access to all, as a
crucial tool for socio-economic development.
Ways to carry this out;-
-
Promoting open internet standards, and strengthening internet
governance efforts...
-
Countrywide workshops/training -- Schools, colleges,
etc,
-
Awareness campaigns... Posters, fliers etc
-
Building partnerships with organizations that will help in these
efforts, by funding..
-
Lobbying the M.O.E to incorporate in the Education
curriculum, a study on Internet etc.
-
Supporting the Universal Access efforts currently
underway.
-
Etc
Just some thoughts....
Regards,
Harry
Listers,
Thank you for the comments you made on
the vision of the Kenyan chapter and thanks Jolie for contributing, your
comments on the following set of questions are welcome:
- What would you find most important for
a good Chapter network?
- What would you see as the desired
strategy and objectives for a successful Chapter in Kenya? What would be the
priorities and how would you define actions?
