in my opinion, this would be good for the populous but not for the telcos, in as much as VOIP does not have very high bandwidth requirements, i don't think that phone companies would be willing to would implement QOS to meet the demand, after all, this would mean losing a very large market to internet companies, who are already biting into their profits by offering almost free texting services. if they do, on the other hand, the prices for internet services would rise significantly. On Sun, Mar 9, 2014 at 8:29 AM, Brian Munyao Longwe <blongwe@gmail.com> wrote:
Kelvin,It is not entirely impossible to reach someone who is offline on the first attempt via Skype, viber, whatsapp(?)It would simply be a matter of the service provider setting up an additional call leg that kicks across to the PSTN in case a Internet based callee is unavaible/doesn't answer. The caller experience would probably consist of a voice prompt to confirm that they want to attempt a call to a conventional phone, which might carry some costs.Best regards,Brian

Why has google voice and skype never achieved its optimum ?What makes this facebook voice to be difrent ? Yes opens up spectrums , increases use of voip but again what happens when the person you calling is offline on facebook ? What happens when we call some one on skype and its not answered ? Or on viber ? We go back to traditional way making calls.Unless there is somehow it connects the call when the user is logged out ( which is impossible) its just anothet average product.
Sent from my iPhonehere i was thinking that most voice is already over ipOn Sat, Mar 8, 2014 at 4:18 PM, John Gitau <jgitau@mymail.co.ke> wrote:
Data rates going up, spectrum issues, congestion etc all those are technical issues , there are ready solutions for those, Easy to resolve. The point is most voice will be over ip even for us.
Sent from my iPadAnd data rates will go high. (On phones and tabs using cellular data )
Sent from my iPhoneSo finally we will be able to install whatsapp on our PCs and Tablets (Those without sim cards, I had find a workaround before getting it to work on my tab).On Thu, Mar 6, 2014 at 7:24 AM, John Gitau <jgitau@mymail.co.ke> wrote:Voice over whatsapp is coming. Along with integration to Facebook chat for it to not just be for phones. At 19b you think it's just for our chats and pictures?
Sent from my iPadVoice is a different ball game to SMS. SMS/Chat require no quality of service, they get there when they get there.
Whatsapp needs to realize that the only way its voice calls can be of any quality is if the mobile Carrier themselves have capacity and at the same time are able and willing to prioritize their voice traffic. Unlike skype, whatsapp can only be installed on phones and therefore is totally dependent on the people it is trying to compete. Based on that alone i think the article below is way off.
