Indian civil society groups protest appointment of civil society co chair of Brazil meeting

--snip---

“India feels that the very term multi-stakeholder was something of a ‘misnomer’. A small unrepresentative group of certain individuals, supported by vested interests, appear to have arrogated themselves the right to present certain views in discussions relating to Internet governance. It was not clear as to who they represent and whether who they claimed to represent had in fact nominated them. These persons undermine the positions of the government and were really spokespersons of certain Western interests,” the note says.

Barrack,

Before automatically 'adopting' perhaps we need to pause and ponder what motivated, how, why, and who set this discussion agenda? At least that would help our collective better understanding of the set discussion agenda, scope and possible outcomes?

Hi Ali,

In addition to WCIT, we also have the Net Mundial meeting in Brazil. I also came across an email in which the following key areas were highlighted as themes for 2014:

1.      Local policies enabling Internet Access

2.      Content Creation, Dissemination and Use

3.      Internet as an engine for growth and development

4.      IGF and the Future of Internet ecosystem

5.      Enhancing Digital Trust

6.      Internet and Human Rights

7.      Critical Internet Resources

8.      Emerging Issues

Can we adopt this to guide our discussions in 2014?, what are the main issues under the various thematic areas that we might want to explore?

Best Regards

Dear Listers,

As the Internet Governance debate unfolds globally , it would be good for Kenya to establish its position. In light of ongoing debates what do you think should be our priorities for 2014? Where should we channel our energies so that we can contribute effectively to the global process?

Best Regards
