Dear All. RE: REGISTRATION Paul has just requested that I shed some light on the above. On topic, I wish to share proceedings/experiences from the Global Chapter Leaders Workshop meeting. 1. "World IPv6 Day" Do we need people to register to attend the event? There are two scenarios. Free things lack appeal, serious guys rarely attend free functions, unless there is strong initiative to marketing the event, by media houses. Corporate companies like and want publicity. They don't value free functions much as important because attendees might just be people who wish to pass time, yet their target would be people they would wish to do business with. 2. Payable/Registration - event This is another option that could be considered. It provides for the opportunity for the Chapter to raise funds to supplement the event budget as well "surplus" for the Chapter Secretariat. We could have individual registration and corporate. The corporate can the opportunity display their wares, logos etc. at the event. 3. Chapter membership, Yes there are options of either payable and free. We are just coming from a long period of consensus building to have our chapter registered. Most members have sacrificed their energy, time and resource to contribute the result can now be seen. We have a Kenyan Chapter. That shows the passion and commitment that they have carried all along to this day. So I think apart from just being a "member" of which many are "virtual", dont attend meetings nor contribute to issues, we need to be little bit serious, by introducing payable membership. This will prove that the member is committed to the chapter and this income can be used to run the secretariat and other miscellaneous costs. For instance the current input by members and officials is just by volunteering. But the Secretariat does more volunteering by ensuring that everything is alright 24/7. But we need to have in mind the global mission, free internet for all, open and inclusive. If membership is by payment, then we may lock out others out there who are passionate to volunteer, but are unable to pay. We need to have a balance on how to approach this. Those are my suggestions. What do you say? Suggest / comment. Charles Oloo On 5/23/12, Paul M <paulitrix@gmail.com> wrote:
For registration and fees, membership is free for now. Charles Oloo is the best person to talk to regarding any aspect of ISOC KE membership.
As for the World IPv6 day join the discussion check the thread: "World IPv6 Day Logistics". We would like to hear your contribution.

Hi! Paul M. Kindly clarify the issue of registration e.g. fees etc. also consider inviting U n representative as well as other ISP I thought it could have been a noble idea to have organized for an exhibition for service providers whom might have boosted the event financially.

Dear all,
I thought it appropriate to start this discussion. As you are all well aware, chapter members met on Saturday and deliberated preparations for the World IPv6 day as part of our chapter meeting agenda. I will need assistance on the preparations. I have already confirmed that the iHub will be available on June 6th. What I am yet to confirm is whether the iHub will be opened before 7am. Tentatively would members mind a mid morning event say 8am-11am? I would like to hear from you.
Nevertheless, here are the tasks that will require members to collaborate on:
*1. Invitations: *Letters of invitation/invitation cards ought to be dispatched to individuals and organisations that we plan to invite. A list of organisations that we deliberated inviting include; Safaricom, KENIC, TESPOK, Zuku, CCK and the Ministry of Information and Communication (this list is not exhaustive). If anyone would like to recommend organisations to invite please feel free and share them on this list. * * *2. Presenters: *I have talked to Michuki Mwangi and he has no qualms giving a presentation on the day. I hope we can get more presenters and give them formal invitations to the event. I would not mind if presenters made power point slides (the iHub will avail a projector). * * *3. Registration: *For planning and budgetary purposes, members and invitees need to register. In the Saturday meeting we deliberated inviting at most 40 people for the event. I hope this number is neither circumscribed nor inflated.
*4. ** Food and Drinks: *I gave Barrack the contacts for the iHub caterer. He has agreed to pursue this matter.
*5. Programme: *This is a skeletal outline of the programme for the day. Please contribute towards making it more elaborate:
1. Breakfast *[Time?]* 2. Keynote- invitee Bitange Ndemo/ Paul Kukubo? *[Time?]* 3. Introduction to ipv6 and isoc ke - Paul Muchene, Barrack *[Time?]* 4. Policy issues - invitee Alice Munyua? *[Time?]* 5. Business case - Michuki Mwangi? *[Time?]* 6. Case Studies: Corporates using Ipv6? *[Time?]* 7. Q & A session *[Time?]* 8. End *[Time?]*
*6. Theme: *I have one more request; What theme can we have for our first World IPv6 day? During the Saturday meeting members requested we focus on demystifying IPv6 and what value people will get when the protocol is deployed. Can we have a theme on this question?
I open the floor for discussion.
