Dear Charles Colleagues, I think we should shift our mindsets from people to activities and issues. I have refrained from engaging in any such debates and have been told that my silence is raising concern and i would like to point out the following. That we should aquaint ourselves with the Internet Societies Mission, Vision and objectives http://www.internetsociety.org/. All our activities should be geared towards shaping the future of the Internet. You all realise that there are a myriad of issues when it comes to shaping the future of the Internet, some will require techies and some will require activists, it is upon members to know where they belong and to respect each other, advocates and activists should not misconstrue the silence of techies to mean they are not active or disinterested, there is a time and a season for every skillset. On another note i would propose that we all get acquainted with our bylaws which are on the mailing list as approved by the Internet Society it is important that we respect the governance structures being formed, at the same time those priviledged to be in leadership positions should be carefull to exercise their responsibilities with diligence and respect for other members in our quest for one internet for all, we must strive to be mentors to each other and encourage the faint hearted to come along. It is imperative that we also understand group dynamics since we are not from the same village, some have to go uphill everymorning some have to go downhill whereas others are stationary which explains the way we react to issues. Finally let us focus on sprucing up our strategic plan so that we may take advantage of the synergies we have , many thanks Ronald for taking a lead on Research and Paul for taking a lead on IPv6, i also commend those who have been active in commenting on public policy issues, let us keep the fire burning and ensure that the Internet is for everyone. Thanks for the elated discussions. This is very encouraging. @Kelvin, thanks for reconsidering your position and willingness to avail more time to play a lead role in the chapter activities. That is the main constrain. It is unfortunate that we have many members but only few are volunteering actively. However, the chapter, with the few active volunteers, continues to lay down strategies to operationalize chapter activities. Some of these strategies were adopted in the last meeting.
It would be a disservice to the chapter, for a meeting to pass a resolution, to assist the chapter move forward, and later a member who knew about the meeting and never attended, brings in another dimension that overrides the agenda that was passed. This tends to bog people down, cause discouragement and therefore causes delays in achieving chapters plans. It would be vital to follow developments and activities and also participate, seek appraisal and clarity on unclear issues and the goings on, so that we don’t create bottlenecks, but be part of the growth.
Let us be consistent, otherwise we might play towards no goal at all, and take too long to even achieve the simplest tasks.
It appears that, the key agenda will be Outreach and recruitment of passionate volunteers who would add value by actively participating in chapter activities, rather than passive membership. These are the resources that are necessary to drive the chapter forward.
There is so much in store for the chapter to accomplish. We need to operate in a structured manner, both contributions and suggestions should be filed in during the request/call time. When time passes, further contributions should be taken forward, otherwise we can spend a whole century discussion and at the end achieve nothing.
I think we need to operationalize the adopted workplan. We should do so in the next meeting. Let us continue with the contributions will be compiled for consideration for inclusion in the document for the final adoption.
It is time that we also make efforts to for internet access during meeting to make it possible for remote participation.

Following our most recent meeting, issues in regards to the sub Committees was raised, and noted that some could be moving slowly due to various constraints, as well as the fact that we do not have many active members hence the few we have end up with big junks of work loads. i would advice that the membership committee to be more vibrant and ensure that we recruit more and more members who will in turn assist this chapter in one way or another. this can be done through a mini campaign dubbed maybe recruitment drive and probably visit the campus or colleges interact with the students and at the end of the day look out for volunteers.
Another sub committee was proposed " PR & Communications " this Committee will be tasked with the following on behalf of isoc.ke.
1. Increase public understanding and recognition of the contributions of isoc in the Society 2. Collaborate with the divisions, local sections, other Society units and committees, individual members of the Society, and external organizations to enhance the public recognition and prestige of isoc Society 3. Encourage and facilitate the training and participation of isoc members in effective communications and public relations efforts 4. Inform the isoc Council/elected office of the Committee?s activities
this are just a few that came to mind however as time goes by i believe there is room for changes. i do ask members who wish to volunteer in this to please do so and we can move forward.
