In Summary * Proposed regulations also say that the CA needs such unfettered access for purposes of inspecting the operators to ensure that their services meet the set quality of service thresholds. * Human rights activists see the proposals, which are currently undergoing stakeholder consultation, as the latest effort by the government to infringe on civil freedoms and citizens’ privacy using the veil of insecurity. * Besides the pursuit of spying rights, the CA is also seeking to institute regulations that will require the telecoms operators to keep the records for a minimum period of three years. Greetings, Above is an extract that is a Summary as put in the BD article. Any CSO that has gone to cite infringement of civil freedoms and privacy et al with the proliferation of physical security checks from hands all over the wrong places of customers bodies, gadget with possible radiation effect perhaps etc etc. How has such follow through on human rights been handled or the outcome? On the issue of engagement on the list I don't think I need to add more. In fact I have on good authority that most of the stakeholders in government are on the list. What I can see is that maybe just may be the...the guys who do this sort of thing need to be empowered within certain parameters.

@Ali,
Funny, I have not come across these proposed regulations - and I often consider myself to take more than a "pedestrian" interest in this sector. I have also checked the regulators site but dont see the specific proposals

Anyone with a copy of the contentious proposals?
KBy the way, KICTAnet has a list of about 750 ICT individuals of diverse interest groups(Academia, Media, Technical, Operator, Consumer,etc). One begins to wonder if it is by design or otherwise, that the regulator, the ministry and other government agencies have in recent times conveniently chose to ignore sending (FREE) alerts on this forum.
Put differently, there must be "other" ICT stakeholders government is engaging and we may need to be told so that we also "vuka"/go there accordingly :-).
