Hi Listers Thanks for all the ongoing contributions regarding the recent "Strategic Plan meeting". Much ground was covered compared to other meetings and we were able to analyse issues critically. However, due to the backlog we were not able to complete everything in entirety. Timelines are utmost necessary as Kelvin has pointed out, and I thought of remember us tying the same to the pending activities, rather than having a discussion with no end. We agree to continue contributing and building on the 'Strategic Plan meeting" on the list, so that those who did not attend the meeting can have the opportunity to contribute, especially the GROUP LEADERS. It was suggested that these suggestions will be collated and compiled for final deliberation in the next meeting. The next meeting should finalize the Strategic Plan, so that we can move ahead. So please I urge all to go thro the documents and please share your views b4 the next meeting. As for the local registration, it is in the process and once complete there will be a notification. @Liz, could you please share the last meeting's minutes as well so that members can have enough time to read thro and provide ideas before the next meeting. On the website, it has not been finalized because of a technicality. I discussed the issue with @Musee and I can report that we are working towards its finality. However, other contrubutors in this Work group are welcome aboard. Volunteers are needed in this group, content builders, editors, writers, programming techies etc. Those interested, just get in touch with me off-the list. The IANA functions are key technical services critical to the continued operations of the Internet's underlying address book, the Domain Name System (DNS). Last year, in anticipation of the contract's expiration, NTIA consulted with Internet stakeholders, both domestic and international, on how best to enhance the performance of these services. Based on input from the global community, NTIA added new requirements. Those include a clear separation between the policy development associated with the IANA services, and implementation by the IANA functions contractor; a robust company-wide conflict of interest policy; a heightened respect for local national law; and a series of consultation and reporting requirements to increase transparency and accountability. The process used over the last year, and the resulting new contract requirements, are tailored to ensure respect for the relevant global multi-stakeholder policy processes. This is consistent with NTIA's belief that the multi-stakeholder model is the most effective way to address Internet issues, and further internationalizes the IANA functions. The IANA Functions include: (1) the coordination of the assignment of technical Internet protocol parameters; (2) the administration of certain responsibilities associated with the Internet DNS root zone management; (3) the allocation of Internet numbering resources; and (4) other services related to the management of the ARPA and INT top-level domains (TLDs). The current IANA contract expires on September 30, 2012. Internet Society Highlights the Internet as an Unparalleled Platform for Innovation in The Global Innovation Index 2012 GII 2012, Co-Published by INSEAD and World Intellectual Property Organization, to be launched at one-day event, 3 July in Geneva [Washington, D.C. and Geneva, Switzerland -- 28 June 2012] -- Internet Society President and Chief Executive Officer, Lynn St. Amour, authored a chapter for The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2012 that highlights the Internet as an unprecedented catalyst for innovation and change. The GII, co-published by INSEAD, the leading international business school, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, recognizes the role of innovation as a driver of economic growth and prosperity to both developed and emerging economies. Apologies for cross posting. I've just heard on Radio, Mr. Wangusi urging the public to check whether the mobile phone they are using is registered. One needs to check the IMEI number by dialling *#06# then send the IMEI number to 1555. Your service provider should give you the response appertaining to the status of your phone. I've checked mine, and it's registered. At least I know come September 30th, my phone will not be switched off. Regards, Solomon

@Ali It is good you have brought up this topic. An I take this opportunity to thank you for speaking your mind. By ISOC putting the ceiling of 40 years for some of the opportunities, I must recognize that they did so this with a reason aiming to build up capacities from the younger generation. But in the African context. they say life begins at 40. At that age you are in a better position to provide fatherly mentorship and guidance. Nevertheless there are very many available opportunities for all ISOC members even if your 50+. Do not focus on the few fellowships, there are plenty of opportunities for every volunteer, so long as you get involved. Just take you time and immerse yourself into ISOC's objectives, mission and goals and you will notice the difference. Try to volunteering your time, resources and expertise for ISOC to achieve its mandate. This is a participatory society where there are ongoing processes that requires members commitment, contribution and participation. Come aboard. Age is just a number. I'm really concerned because there are lots of porous gaps, which could be used by terrorists against innocent Kenyans. Even if I sense the guards might identify a bomb, what about luggage deposits or undergound parkings? Methinks there ought to be electronic scanners, just like the ones found in airports to provide maximum security. There is an update doing rounds on facebook of how cell phones are used as guns, and I wonder we have mechanisms for safeguarding our security , at the least expected places. Fom the foregoing, it's apparent that we are good at react instead of preventing a calamity from taking place.
