Dear Members, At our members meeting held today at Pete's restaurant Bishop Magua Centre on Ngong road it was resolved that an elections committee be constituted to manage the forthcoming Chapter elections and annual general meeting. The terms of reference of the committee will be as follows: 1. To establish guidelines in accordance with the Societies act and Chapter bylaws within which the elections will be conducted. 2. To examine the membership register and determine members who are eligible to vie for office as well as participate in the elections as per the Society by Laws. 3. To issue a call for nominations and publish the list of nominees for various positions as per the Society by laws. 4. To establish a date suitable for the elections and annual general meeting and announce the same as per the Chapter bylaws and Societies act. 5. To conduct the elections using appropriate means and publish the results on local and International lists . We are pleased to announce that the following members volunteered and have been subsequently appointed by the Executive Committee to serve on the elections committee: 1. Ms Grace Bomu Chairperson 2. Dear Members, As we prepare for the forthcoming annual general meeting, we will be required to constitute an elections committee to oversee the electoral process. We will constitute this committee during the next membership meeting and we welcome members interested in being part of the committee to express interest through info(a)isoc.or.ke. In addition we plan to have observers from the Internet Society Staff and representatives of African Chapters to help oversee the process. University researchers are working on a system that could quash rumours spreading on social media by identifying whether information is accurate.Five European universities, led by Sheffield in northern England, are cooperating on a system that could automatically identify whether a rumour originates from a reliable source and can be verified. "Social networks are rife with lies and deception," the project leaders said in a statement. Such messages can have far-reaching consequences, but there is so much of it that it is impossible to analyse it in real time. After 4 weeks of intensive training, selected trainees may be employed to work full time/part time on the next MEDEVA production. Requirements for MEDEVA 2014 Training: 1) Send your CV (Maximum 3 pages) with an application letter (1 page) 2) Brief outline of maximum three original ideas that you would like to develop into TV and Radio programmes.(Maximum 100 words each) 3) Applicants must be between the ages of 18 - 30 years.
