The University of Nairobi's innovation hub (C4DLab) has continued to play an active role on research in Kenya. Cloud Technology is one of the subjects that C4DLab has continued to interrogate and promote. After conducting a baseline survey in 2013 on cloud adoption, C4DLab is spearheading an effort to develop a cloud strategy for Kenya in partnership with a number of stakeholders. In light of the upcoming National Cloud Strategy, C4DLab proposes a public/private sector workshop for Policy makers and practitioners to discuss the key topics in the subject of Cloud Technology growth in Kenya. Neelie Kroes to ETNO - "Adapt or die."

Interesting read http://www.lightreading.com/services/broadband-services/telecom-sector-its-… (Kroes) attended a conference organized by European Telecommunications Network Operators' Association (ETNO) , the industry association that represents the region's major telcos, and witnessed the unveiling of ETNO's "Agenda for Europe," which calls for an "ambitious reform of current policy." Then Kroes took to the stage and fired thunderbolts into the crowd, starting her speech -- "Adapt or die: What I would do if I ran a telecom company" -- by noting that "sometimes I think the telecoms sector is its own worst enemy," before adding that the telecom sector's representatives in the room were "probably all looking forward to the very near future ... when you won't have to put up with me anymore." Cue uncomfortable shuffling in seats... She told the telcos that they "have to change" and be ready for a world set to be dominated by the cloud, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data and 5G. "What is the telecoms sector's relationship to that digital future?" she asked. "Will you be leading us there? Or will you be dragged along behind, against your will, resisting until the last?" Cybersecurity threats and building trust* reviews common security threats to individuals, such as malware (including spyware, Trojans, viruses), phishing, e-scams and identity theft. To better understand the security-enabling infrastructure, the chapter explains the basics of the authentication and Public Key Infrastructure, including PIN codes and other identifiers, randomly generated passwords and e-signatures, and touches upon the challenge of identity and anonymity online. It concludes by looking at ways to build trust in e-commerce and e-services. *Chapter 3. Cybercrime* attempts to define and classify cybercrime while reviewing the history of spam, viruses, intrusion, worms, Trojan horses, denial-of-service attacks and cyber-stalking, and also analyses its economic and social impacts. The chapter then focuses on combatting cybercrime: existing legal frameworks at the global and regional levels, jurisdiction challenges and various law enforcement approaches, computer investigation and e-forensics. *Chapter 4. Social aspects of cybersecurity*: correlating privacy with security is our first task in this module, with special reflection on social media challenges. We attempt to define online safety, and scan through the challenges of the Web 2.0 era where users are the contributors and the Internet is ubiquitous. We then look at child safety, including cyber-bullying, abuse and sexual exploitation, and violent games, and discuss the ways to address these challenges through policy, education and technology. *Chapter 7. Internet safety*: touching upon openness and online freedoms, we look at some of the main issues faced when dealing with Internet safety, including objectionable and harmful content. We then analyse the reliability of information, and look at ethics, health and gender issues. *Chapter 8. Internet security policies and strategies:* we dive deeply into the existing legal and policy frameworks. Hi Ali, My view is that safaricom/Airtel should capitalise thier efforts in localizing peering and forget the spoiler which is monopoly. If they can spread the net wider with an aim of giving back to the consumers then they work on efficiency for sure.
