Internet Freedom Festival - (Spain - March 2016)

Hello listers, The Internet Freedom Festival (IFF) will take place March 1-6, 2015 in Valencia, Spain. It is a time for the freedom community to strengthen bonds of trust, share knowledge, and recharge batteries. IFF takes a community, ground up approach. As a result, we are looking for interesting individuals submit a session that they feel would benefit the Internet Freedom community. Currently, there are 8 tracks you can be part of. Previous festivals have seen low attendance from Sub-Sahara Africa, from child-safety online orgs, gender-focused organisations, LGBTQI community and other minorities who are affected by Internet surveillance but are not represented as much as they would wish. Funding is limited and will depend on quality of session, how collaborative it is and how it can lead to a practical impact path after the festival. A lot still has been talked about regarding leaders declaration of assets to ensure transparency in dealing with this issue. Warm Greetings, Interesting read Sidney and Matunda, thank you for sharing. Covert practices by enterprises will work and only for so long. A case we now have for example is the BBC saga dragging in the old time BAT and Mastermind wars. While the real covert players of those days may not even be there to answer to the claims, heavy prices will be paid now by the enterprises. It also points to Government and political protection to the then Goliaths to give a conducive playing field. Long-term customer centric enterprises keep in mind that playing fields change. The biggest loss for innovation is that this killer maneuvers seem to come from the "big enterprises" the Goliaths now who should have a great stake in promoting innovation to grow the industry as a whole - which would possibly give them even more business and make them even bigger. You would note that such stories elicit little response perhaps there are many pipers for Goliath! There has got to be a way to co-exist considering that innovators thrive from stepping on the shoulders of and paths trampled upon by Goliaths who were once Davids! It would be of interest to hear from the Goliaths for David's sake! Have a blessed day. In Kenya, Facebook has partnered with Airtel to offer users zero rated services, christened "free basics" which means that several websites have been selected (for lack of a proper word) to participate in the platform, where users access these websites for free. However, the same users cannot access any other website unless they pay for the data. Different positions depending on where their proponents stand have been shared.
