I have picked from the various conversations as the names and institutions have been thrown in. I would require the contact information - emails will be especially useful to enable us reach them once the program is completed (Paul/Barrack/Charles/Liz - Monday 28th May, the final program should be out so that we give the Guests till Wednesday 30th to give their confirmation. This list does not include the list of ISOC members attending. Anyone else you know whom we should invite as a Guest? Who is a stakeholder in the "Internet World of Kenya?" Their contacts will also help us alot. Q: Is there an association for cybercafes or a representative body? Dear all, Just seen a discussion about this from the KICTANET mailing list and I believe that these two bills will somehow affect the growth of internet in Kenya. I propose that after the World IPv6 Launch event, the next immediate task should be ISOC Kenya to give a formal response to CIC (Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution) on our (as ISOC Kenya) stand about these two bills. As you are all well aware, chapter members met on Saturday and deliberated preparations for the World IPv6 day as part of our chapter meeting agenda. I will need assistance on the preparations. I have already confirmed that the iHub will be available on June 6th. What I am yet to confirm is whether the iHub will be opened before 7am. Tentatively would members mind a mid morning event say 8am-11am? I would like to hear from you. Nevertheless, here are the tasks that will require members to collaborate on: *1. Invitations: *Letters of invitation/invitation cards ought to be dispatched to individuals and organisations that we plan to invite. A list of organisations that we deliberated inviting include; Safaricom, KENIC, TESPOK, Zuku, CCK and the Ministry of Information and Communication (this list is not exhaustive). Dear Members, Thank you for the passion being demonstrated by all members towards the activities of the Kenyan Chapter. For us to make any meaningfull impact using the skill and talent that is in our midst, we will require a very organised mode of operation. The current strides have been made by volunteers who have commited their time and resources, there is plenty to be done and we need more members to come forwad. We appreciate all those who have responded to various calls to take up responsibilities in speaking in various topical areas and to take charge of various roles. Before the end of the week we will publish a list of all volunteers the roles they are playing and the roles we need to filll on interim basis as we establish the organisations structures. As we move forwad let us also appreciate the diversity of viewpoints in our midst and mentor each other to become the best that we can be. Finally several members have been sending in their contributions on how they would like to see the Chapter run and the activities they would like to engage in , we encourage you to post this to info(a)isoc.or.ke so that we can sysnthesise everything and establish a workplan. Please note that we will be championing ISOCs global course locally, i therefore urge all members to visit www.isoc.org and familiarise with the Internet Society, for the new members, ensure that you are a global member as well. Advance notice need to have been provided and relevant information regarding the candidates communicated, so that we can analyze and vote for personalities we think could take ISOC community to the next level. For instance, I just came across the request from Prof Gian. Knowing that if I dont do it I may forget and may fail to beat a deadline, if there is any, I went ahead and goggled his Bio.just to make sure who he is. Does a Chapter cast one vote or we vote as individuals. How many contenders are in the contest. This are very vital since some do not know them leave alone hearing about some of them. It is not easy to cast a vote for someone you have never seen or heard of and this put us in very awkward position. . Paul gave a brief introduction to ISOC to Qnet's online entrepreneurs, and we had 51 people interested to join the chapter. *2. World ipv6 day. *ISOC_ke's activities on the world ipv6 day (6th june) was discussed at length. Paul also gave an introduction to ipv6 and the need to emphasize for its deployment Members discussed on the event that was to take place at ihub. It was agreed that the event is to start early (7.00am) so as to allow members to get back to work or attend other ict events taking place on the same date. There were suggestions to involve the press since it would be our first event and members felt that there was need for us to use this event to reach more for our presence. Corporates already channeled to th IP version 6 such as safaricom, equity and uunet were also to be invited so that they can share with us on how they went about it. *The program of the world ipv6 day as discussed.* 1. Breakfast 2. keynote- invitee Bitange Ndemo/ Paul Kukubo 3. introduction to ipv6 and isoc ke - Paul Muchene, Barrack 4. Policy issues - invitee Alice Munyua 5. Q & A session *Local registration *It was noted that the chapter needs ksh.5,000 for its local registration and the 11 members who were present agreed that we should contribute 500 shillings towards the same and any surplus amount will be added to other activities. The money should be sent to Elizabeth Orembo, 0716842399 via mpesa by wednesday. *isoc_ke workplan* It was agreed that the issue is to be posted on the list so that listers can brainstorm on ideas, a complete work plan is to be compiled by the end of the week by Charles. Members felt that the chapter should be very stong on policy issues and some of the ideas suggested were plans for supporting recognition of the chapter , internet mashinani/ capacity building, policy isssues and the growth of internet The meeting ended at 1.00 am, next meeting to be held on 16th june at the same venue. -- Best regards.
